Job Description:





BASIC FUNCTION:




The Senior Clinical Counselor is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of all forms of service for Counseling services by primarily providing a high level of direct clinical personal, preventive, and developmental counseling to undergraduate students, including crisis intervention, consultation, and referral services within and to community resources.




The Senior Clinical Counselor will also be assigned as the primary point of contact and administrator in the absence of the Director, including responsibility for maintaining department operational policies and procedures and providing consultation for internal and external clinical needs/concerns.




The Senior Clinical Counselor will demonstrate an evident commitment to the Salve Regina University Mission in all facets of their position by role modeling understanding and support for the multidimensional identities and life experiences of community members.





ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Provide evidence-based, culturally responsive clinical services to undergraduate students, including intake assessment, individual counseling, and crisis intervention.

  • Facilitate referrals to other student services and/or external mental health services and provide additional case management as needed.

  • Develop and implement training and programming on pertinent mental health topics or concerns, as well as provide consultation to administrators, faculty, and other staff.

  • Practice client confidentiality and adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of ethics and maintain licensure/CEU requirements as required by discipline.

  • Maintain appropriate clinical records/documentation in the electronic medical records system (EMR) utilized by Counseling Services in a timely manner.

  • Engage in weekly Staff Meetings, Case Conference and Clinical Team Meetings; may be asked to facilitate meeting(s) as requested by Director.

  • Engage in bi-weekly Supervision with Director for clinical and administrative consultation.

  • May collaborate with Director to identify programming, review outreach requests, and coordinate with Staff to respond to, schedule and facilitate programming and outreach.

  • Act as primary point of contact and administrator responsible for maintaining department operational policies and procedures and providing consultation for internal and external clinical needs/concerns in the absence of the Director.

  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with department co-workers, and clients, students, parents/guardians, administration, faculty, and staff.

  • Serve as a leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced, respected, and reflective in their professional behavior and clinical practice, including engaging in an active on-going learning process.

  • Adhere to guidelines in the Counseling Services' Staff Manual and general policies/procedures for employees of Salve Regina University.





OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Stay current in the field of mental health including maintaining licensure and engaging in professional development opportunities as determined in collaboration with the Director.

  • May provide psychoeducational group work as requested by Director.

  • May serve on campus-wide committees as appointed and/or needed as determined in consultation with Director.

  • May develop and provide relevant mental health social media and marketing for the department and/or in collaboration with other departments, as requested by Director.

  • May provide supervision of 1-2 graduate interns each academic year.

  • May provide mental health consultation and/or support after business hours for mental health crisis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling Services.





WORK SCHEDULE:




The work position is typically from the third week of August through the last day of senior week in mid-May, 35 hours per week. With the holidays and academic calendar there is an understanding that most years this equates to 32 weeks total (plus or minus a few days each calendar year with school holidays). During the academic year, the candidate does not work when classes are not in session and thus does not accrue any vacation time. This 32-week schedule may be flexible at the discretion of the Director for the benefit of the university, its students, and training graduate interns.





LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:





  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Must hold an active Rhode Island professional license as an independent mental health provider or be license-eligible with ability to obtain a Rhode Island professional license within six (6) months of start date. Must retain a Rhode Island license throughout tenure.





ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:




The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.






Requirements:





Required:





  • Must hold an active Rhode Island professional license as an independent mental health provider or be license-eligible with ability to obtain a Rhode Island professional license within six (6) months of start date. Must retain a Rhode Island license throughout tenure.

  • Master's degree in social work or mental health counseling, or related field, or Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in counseling or clinical psychology.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate experience performing clinical evaluation and assessment, intervention and treatment planning, case management, crisis intervention, and individual clinical counseling.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience working with the young adult population.

  • Experience developing and providing mental health educational programs and training.

  • Basic computer knowledge of MS Office software.

  • Ability to work extended hours and represent Counseling Services on an infrequent basis for campus events, emergency situations, and outreach programs.





Preferred:





  • Experience with counseling scheduling/record keeping software.

  • Experience with college or university population.

  • Experience providing supervision and/or management.

  • Effective consultative and decision-making skills related to individual client work and working through ethical dilemmas in a clinical setting.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills reflected in an ability to meet the varying demands of a clinical session and the collective needs of a department.

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate professionalism with managing job related stress and rapid transitions in a clinical setting.

  • Exceptional work ethic with ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively.

  • Excellent clinical documentation skills and administration of clinical records

  • Effective oral and written communication skills to support successful professional internal and external departmental relationships.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and connections in a clinical setting.
