The Equipment Maintenance Technician 2 is part of the Reagents Equipment Engineering team who provides expertise, service, and support to San Diego Illumina headquarters by maintaining equipment at world-class levels in a fast paced regulated environment and providing high level reliability exceeding Illumina's dynamic development and manufacturing demands.

The Equipment Maintenance Technician 2 will support the day-to-day manufacturing equipment maintenance operations by owning high complexity maintenance task and challenges, with some supervision from shift lead and management team. This individual will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner.

Work Schedule: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate upcoming Preventive Maintenance/Calibration activities with multiple working groups to ensure work is completed on-time

  • Escalate problems to engineers, suggest solutions, and work with engineers to address advanced issues.

  • Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of multiple parallel activities like preventive/unplanned maintenance, supplier support, and project activities with some guidance to ensure work is completed on-time

  • Perform documented and undocumented maintenance activities

  • Work with instrument systems that will require electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and controls trouble-shooting

  • Troubleshoot and support the engineers with modeling of Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

  • Monitor equipment technical performance and manage technical inventory for area of responsibility with some oversight.

  • Use controls, mechanical, electrical, and or fluidics knowledge to perform equipment troubleshooting.

  • Work in a team environment to improve equipment reliability and uptime.

  • Work with Vendors to schedule on-site maintenance

  • Make suggestions for continuous improvement and cost savings

  • While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crouch, and wear safety gear. Must regularly lift and/ or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Requirements:


  • Capable of executing procedures without established instructions and capable of referencing written documentation.

  • Working knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) would be a plus

  • Work experience in Life Sciences / Pharmaceutical / Medical Devices industries would be an advantage

  • Comfortable working with electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical based instruments

  • Familiar with reading electrical and mechanical schematics

  • Ability to maintain a strong level of organization in a fast paced environment

  • Familiarity with spare parts used for manufacturing equipment

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Proficient with navigation of Windows OS and general computer software/hardware troubleshooting

  • Proficient verbal and written documentation skills in English

  • Experience in high volume manufacturing environment preferred

  • Experience using engineering troubleshooting tools

  • Any technical background

  • This position may require occasional shift adjustments or weekend work depending on business need.

  • Limited travel a few times a year for training purposes

Experience/Education:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent; associates degree preferred

  • At least 3 years of related experience

The estimated base hourly range for the Production Maintenance Technician 2 role based in the United States of America is: $22.59 - $33.84. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
