TITLE: Career and Academic Advisor



POSITION NO.: P03868



SECTION: Advising and Retention



HIRING SALARY: $40,308.22 - $44,145.62 annually; all salary calculations to start at the minimum salary



HOURS: 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday; (hours may vary to include evenings and weekends)

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Career and Academic Advisor is housed within Career and Academic Planning Office and will report to the Dean of Career and Academic Planning. Responsible for independent and specialized work in academic advisement, registration, orientation, and related functions for A.A. degree seeking student population to assist students with staying on their desired Guided Pathway.




  • Adheres to the Guided Pathways theory to provide holistic and comprehensive advising services for assigned caseload. Ensure advisees are advised individually and/or in groups regarding academic requirements, course selection and registration, academic policies and procedures and career goals.Provides guidance to/for important/relevant campus resources including career services, student accessibility services, academic support services and transfer requirements or opportunities.




  • Assist with walk-in advising general questions on Eagle Q.




  • Assists First Year Experience Coordinator and Career Services/Internship Coordinator in promoting programs and resources to FTIC and Continuing student advisees.




  • Perform related duties to meet Career and Academic Planning department advising goals.




  • Seeks out and actively participates in professional development offerings annually.






MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of related experience, preferably in higher education, Masters preferred. An Associate's degree and four years of related experience may also be considered.




SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of College admissions requirements, policies, procedures, academic programs, assessment instruments, graduation requirements, university transfer requirements and the Florida articulation system, career planning, unofficial transcript evaluation, and other areas related to College programs and division activities. The Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Microsoft Office. Must have oral and written communication skills to share accurate and reliable information with students, faculty, staff and the general public. Public speaking skills. Ability to provide extensive contact with the public in person, email or by phone. Ability to be detailed-oriented. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate college events. Work independently, and in a team. Make sound judgments. Administer and interpret assessment results. Provide information sessions. Operate a personal computer.
