The Department of Otolaryngology - Audiology is currently seeking a full time Audiology Assistant 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Audiology Assistant 2 performs tasks that are prescribed, directed, and supervised by a certified and/or licensed audiologist. The Audiology Assistant 2 serves as a mentor to Audiology Assistant 1's, through supporting their training and professional advisement. The Audiology Assistant 2 ensures clinics remain on time and can cover for all areas of Audiology Assistant responsibility as needed.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



1. Supports Audiologist in audiological testing and evaluation, ensuring proper fitting of hearing devices and technology. Supports the delivery of services, where appropriate. Performs hearing aid orientation, including basic care and use of hearing aid (insertion, removal, adjusting volume, etc.) Demonstrates care and maintenance of hearing devices to patients and support/care givers.
2. Works directly with the Practice Manager to support the training of junior Assistants. Supports the training of Audiology Assistant 1s in all areas of responsibility.
3. Submits signed consents to healthcare centers to initiate retrieval of medical records, pathology slides, x-rays, and other pertinent reports.
4. Prepares treatment room for examination of patient. Cleans and sterilizes instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.
5. Assists with examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the audiologist as directed. Cleans and sanitizes patient room between each appointment.
6. Manages and maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
7. Greets patients upon arrival and verifies patient information. Directs patient to the clinic or audiology room and ensures the patient is ready for the provider. Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
8. Manages, organizes, and stocks audiology rooms with all supplies needed by specialty daily and discards expired supplies.
9. Checks audiology clinic organization and cleanliness weekly, hand sanitizer dispensers and reports the need to have them filled and/or to request deep cleaning.
10. Assists in performing clerical duties such as answering phone calls and maintaining administrative records.
11. Utilizes IDX RIS/PACS to track patient arrival times and advises front desk personnel of patient delays to maintain daily schedule.
12. Documents all equipment issues and reports to appropriate managing staff. Reports unusual incidents in a timely manner to appropriate supervisory personnel.
13. Assists in the distribution of patient label stickers in Audiology.
14. Performs daily biologic checks of audiological equipment and reports any problems with equipment to the equipment manufacturer and Practice Manager.
15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:



High school diploma or equivalent



Certification and Licensing:



Audiology Assistant Certification completion within the first three months of employment.



Experience:



Minimum 3 years of relevant experience



DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM




Department Specific Functions



1. Monitors audiology provider schedules & patient arrivals, and notifies(through designated channels like clinical mobile phones) providers of arrivals and readied patients in a timely manner.
2. Assists with transition from waiting room to audiology division.
3. Records case history information for all audiology appointments once certification is received.
4. Assists audiologists with all clinical visits, including, ABR, VNG/ENG, hearing aid evaluations, pediatric and booth testing and otoacoustic emissions testing as needed.
5. Participates with the audiology licensee in research projects, in-service training, in public relations programs, or similar activities as planned, designed and directed by the audiology licensee.
6. Assists in implementing a plan or program for management and/or treatment developed by the supervising Audiology licensee.
7. Tests hearing aids to determine if they meet appropriate specification and/or mechanical performance.
8. Demonstrates knowledge of all types of hearing devices (hearing aid, cochlear implants, bone conduction devices).
9. Demonstrates care and use of the hearing aid controls, battery insertion and insertion of the hearing aid or ear mold into the ear.
10. Tests equipment to determine if the equipment is performing according to published specifications.
11. Screens hearing using established criteria on a pass/fail basis, including but not limited to newborn hearing screening.
12. Complete regular inventory checks as directed by the Practice Manager.
13. May require travel between clinics.
14. Logs needed items in the monthly ordering sheet by due date disbursed by the Practice Manager, as assigned.
15. Prepares/stocks patient rooms as directed by the Practice Manager every morning and every night; this may include turning on/turning off equipment, restarting computers, among other items.
16. Assist in pediatric appointments as needed.
17. Makes case-by-case decisions on clinic flow that prioritizes shortened wait times and optimal patient care.
18. Keep equipment/status records of equipment as directed by the Practice Manager.
19. Check for cerumen impaction or infection to determine if patient needs to visit the ENT department for removal first.
20. Determine availability for an audiologist taking an add-on, using the clinical patient schedule for the day, and find an audiologist who can take the add-on. If the add-on cannot be taken, the AA will convey this to ENT.
21. May be asked to support parts of the insurance authorization process.
22. May be asked to support the scheduling process.
23. May be asked to hold their own clinic.
