We are currently looking for a Senior Payroll Accountant to join our tight knit Payroll team. This position will be based in our Westport, CT office. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years experience in hands on payroll processing and account reconciliations. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated individual to advance their career.
Responsibilities
Assist with the monthly financial close by preparing account reconciliations, submitting journal entries, and working cross functionally with other internal stakeholders to obtain relevant information.
Advanced understanding of accounting principles, ability to understand impact of payroll activity on financial statements and ability to analyze, explain P&L and Balance Sheet variances.
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations ensuring the completeness and accuracy of applicable ledger accounts.
Answer accounting and financial inquiries by researching and interpreting data.
Assist in year-end audits and manage ad-hoc inquiries from external auditors.
Manage the posting of the bi-weekly payroll journals.
Reconciliation of the Salary data to the GL.
Explanation of Salary and Benefit related month over month variances.
Accounting for and reconciliation of the various benefit plans:
Life Insurance
Medical
Dental
Vision
HSA
FSA
Transit
Become a back up to Payroll Manger and assist in payroll processing.
Demonstrate advanced expertise in Excel utilizing Pivot, VLOOKUPs and Functions for comprehensive reporting.
Provide support during payroll audits.
Collaborate cross-functionally with HR and Finance to implement new processes and improve on existing processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related degree
Minimum 6 years' of experience in accounting, GL accounting software
Minimum 6 years’ of experience with payroll systems
Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control and payroll taxes.
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
High Proficiency using Excel.
Preferred knowledge in Workday Payroll System.
Preferred knowledge in Deltek VantagePoint.
