Job Summary

Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging (SSIB) units provide support for students to reach their personal, academic, and professional goals through curricular and co-curricular engagement opportunities. Our work is rooted in the goals of being more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We strive to create a sense of belonging for students and other members of the university community. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator-Graphic Design will create, design, and maintain digital and print marketing and communications materials for Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging and its substituent units.



Duties & Responsibilities



Graphic Design and Communications


  • Create visual marketing and communication materials/campaigns - such as posters, digital advertisements, social media graphics, event signage, multipage publications, etc. -- that have quantifiable objectives, meet established timelines, and are strategically targeted for various audiences including current students, prospective students, faculty, staff, administrators, families, and alumni;

  • Take direction from the Sr. Associate Director for Marketing & Communications, who will be leading overall design.

  • Develop and execute marketing and storytelling campaigns for SSIB and its' units;

  • Collaborate with SSIB staff/clients to manage the development, coordination and approvals for design projects and needs.

  • Communicate with vendors to obtain quotes, provide project instruction (including print specifications), and deliver final artwork files.

Brand Management

  • Maintain a consistent brand across all communications channels and formats in adherence with Illinois and Student Affairs brand and visual identity standards;

  • Oversee and update templates for use across multiple platforms for use by all SSIB units;

  • Maintain and organize files and digital assets;

Website Design and Content Management

  • Assist in managing and developing website content and frameworks for SSIB units;

Organization, Administration and Other

  • Supervise unit staff, as needed;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, graphic design, advertising, or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.


Preferred Qualifications



Experience:

  • Three (3) years (36 months) of professional working experience in marketing, public relations, communication, brand management, or a related professional area.

  • One (1) year (12 months) of professional working experience in graphic design, implementing of marketing campaigns, or creation of digital and print marketing materials;

  • One (1) year (12 months) of professional working experience in website design, content management, or other website management.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent visual design skills including typography, color matching, and understanding of layout and graphic design principles.
  • Advanced skills in current design software including Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous design projects.
  • Professionalism and ability to interact with diverse staff stakeholders.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in time management, organizing work assignments, and responding quickly and effectively to challenges.
  • Openness, inclusiveness, sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to interaction with all people, understand individual differences, and relate with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Knowledge of Drupal content management system.
  • Understanding of best practices for accessible and responsive design in digital environments.
  • Experience designing materials for diverse audiences.
  • Experience designing for a broad variety of platforms and vehicles - from print to digital to social media.
  • Broad, general knowledge of higher education and an understanding of the Urbana-Champaign campus academic and administrative structure.


Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 6/17/2024. Salary for this position begins at $59,000.
