PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MED (IN-PATH-IUINA)



Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Performs insect/bacterial cell culture protocol maintenance and generates data reports for grants.

  • Performs protein purification, animal management and handling.

  • Manages laboratory regulatory compliance and clearances with Environmental Health and Safety.

  • Performs equipment and instrument protocol maintenance.

  • Manages service contracts and records maintenance for data support as needed for grants.

  • Conducts technical scientific laboratory experiments for data so the Principal Investigator (PI) may generate new grant applications and/or progress reports on grants.

  • Provides supervision to graduate students that rotate through the lab.

General Responsibilities


  • Leads research activities and protocol development.

  • Maintains equipment, including preventive maintenance such as scheduling repairs as needed, service agreement negotiations, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining an active list of vendors to respond to equipment loss.

  • Supervises, mentors, and provides training for junior-level staff.

  • Prepares summary data reports.

  • Creates and maintains databases for storage and analysis.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations.

  • May design and conduct a wide range of complex experiments.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field


Preferred



  • Master's degree in a sciences related field

  • Degree in biochemistry or molecular biology

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 3 years of laboratory research experience


Preferred



  • Bench research experience during undergraduate and/or graduate studies

Working Conditions / Demands



The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The person in this position must be willing and able to participate in mouse model studies. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$54,000 - $62,000 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department
