Position Description

Kinder Morgan is currently seeking a Mechanical Integrity Engineer to guide and support the Mechanical Integrity Department at the Elba Island LNG Facility in Savannah, Georgia. Mechanical Integrity (MI) can be defined as the management of critical process equipment to ensure it is designed and installed correctly and that it is operated and maintained properly.
The Mechanical Integrity Engineer is responsible for activities relevant to the mechanical integrity program for fixed equipment including piping, equipment and vessels, used in all services at the LNG terminal. This will include primary ownership of the Mechanical Integrity program, working with KM engineering, and maintenance personnel, third party contractors, and others, on all aspects of equipment integrity, including determination of asset criticality, RBI analysis, mapping of corrosion circuits and corrosion monitoring locations, budgeting for MI activities, interfacing with regulators and inspectors, and other associated duties.
Essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Lead the continued development of the Mechanical Integrity program at the LNG terminal including inspection types and intervals.

  • Knowledgeable on applicable codes and standards (49 CFR 193, API 580, API 510/570/653, ASME VIII, ANSI B31.3, etc.)

  • Participate in the continued development of the maintenance program at the LNG terminal including asset hierarchy, equipment criticality, pressure relief device inspection strategy, etc.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to the facility Pipeline Integrity Analysist (PIA).

  • Oversee the loading of mechanical integrity related asset information and inspection data into the PCMS database

  • Participate in the evaluation of integrity operating windows and limits for pressure equipment at the facility

  • Review and understand design basis for pressure relief equipment such as relief valves, rupture discs/pins, etc.

  • Review mechanical integrity aspects of initiatives to improve efficiency, debottlenecking and other plant modifications, etc.

  • Provide mechanical integrity input for P&ID development associated with plant changes and projects

  • Lead mechanical integrity incident/near miss investigations to determine root cause of undesired condition/outcome

  • Oversee mechanical integrity data collection and analysis

  • Assist in developing and delivering mechanical integrity related training for operations and maintenance personnel

  • Provide support for emergencies and standby situations


Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • B.S. in mechanical engineering or a similar technical degree.
Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with fixed equipment in petroleum, natural gas, or petrochemical industry required.

  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical integrity principles and their application in an operating facility

  • Knowledge reading and interpreting P&IDs, pressure equipment data sheets, and other mechanical integrity related documents

  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, flare systems, & high/low pressure systems

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements

  • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties. These include: API 510, API 570, API 580, API 653, API RP576 and AMPP CIP Level 1.

  • Must hold or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Computer skills (competent in MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software)

  • Must become proficient in Mistras' Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS) in first year in the position

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus

  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules

  • Ability to speak and understand English

  • Successful completion of background check and drug screen prior to hire

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions

  • Climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways

  • Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells

Working conditions:

  • May work in low-lit areas

  • Occasional travel will be required. Travel will vary depending upon business needs

  • Be available for shift work when applicable

  • Must respond to and address callouts and emergencies after regular business hours including after dark hours, which may require carrying a communication device.
