Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems’ Pittsburgh office has an immediate opening for a Senior Highway Engineer/HIghway Team Lead. Candidates will function as a Project Manager and/or Task Manager and will be responsible to lead a team of highway engineers and designers in completing roadway and/or trail design. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be able to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.  Assignments may involve travel within the continental United States.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):


  • Prepare or preferably direct highway design assignments involving geometric design, drainage design, traffic studies and traffic signal design, development of calculations, contract plans preparation and specifications, requiring quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets and schedules

  • Prepare or preferably direct development of letters, technical reports, sketches, tables, and other documents required for design submissions

  • Provide Team Leadership

    • Plan, organize, and supervise a team of highway engineers and designers

    • Provide/assign project workload for team members to meet utilization goals

    • Evaluate team performance in accordance with established goals

    • Provide mentorship for other employees



  • Assist the Office Director and other senior level staff in the implementation of the marketing plan and business development goals for the office

  • Interface with client, attend project meetings, and additional client meetings, as required

  • Perform project field views and information gathering in support of project designs

  • Ensure project delivery is compliant with quality control procedures and standards and with client and company specific guidelines, as well as on time and within budget.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Provide the leadership and energy necessary to motivate the project team to achieve established goals and exceed the client’s expectations

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college

  • 12 to 15+ years of design/management experience in highway engineering assignments

  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months

  • Established working relationships with PennDOT and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and a thorough knowledge and understanding of their design guidelines

  • Team oriented engineer and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple project demands and transitioning priorities

  • Experience with Bentley Microstation, OpenRoads, and AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Valid Driver’s License

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • Experienced Project Manager and/or Task Manager on a variety of projects for PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, local municipalities and/or trail organizations

  • Experience with the preparation of Statements of Interest, Technical and Price Proposals

Work Environment:


  • The work environment is primarily in an office and will occasionally include field work.

  • The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.   • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
