The Training Specialist collaborates and consults with the various departments in the plant to assess training needs and then designs or develops appropriate programs to meet the plant’s manufacturing goals and strategic objectives in addition to the learning objectives. Position also requires implementation and potential facilitation of technical, operational, and/or specialty training events and programs.

Essential Duties:


  • Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers and external resources. Recommends, creates, organizes, plans, and presents various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training for employees and contractors. Partner with Department SME’s when necessary. Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, presentations, simulations, and videos. Communicates changes to the training curriculum and process to plant management and employees.


  • Administrate Alchemy Training Software. Owns the organization and set-up of all training content, reporting, and training of this system to others who use the program throughout the plant.


  • Works with the City of Terre Haute, local, and state schools to ensure we are properly utilizing external training resources available for our employees. Manages training grant application process.


  • Oversees the execution of the required regulatory and annual qualification training.


  • Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback; uses feedback to continuously improve. Maintains metrics and report Training KPIs each period.


  • Orders and maintains in-house training equipment, manages room set-ups, supplies and catering for training events.


  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Experience:


  • Total Years of Experience- 3+ years of manufacturing experience, training


  • Minimum Formal Education- H.S. Diploma or Equivalent with additional education focused on training in a manufacturing environment (Toyota Production System, Lean Six Sigma, Safety, Food Safety & Quality, On-boarding, HR Specific)


  • Additional Information- Maintain a positive attitude. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint- Preferred


  • Alchemy- Preferred


  • JDE, Atomic, PKMS- Preferred

    Strong ability to work effectively with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.



  • Strong presentation skills.


  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.


  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.


  • Ability to design and implement effective training and development.


  • Ability to communicate via speaking, listening and visual means.


  • Ability to give verbal direction and negotiate.


  • Ability to use analytical skills to determine the correct course of action.


  • Ability to manage several projects at the same time and be able to learn new projects quickly.

Physical Demand Characteristics:  Sedentary – Lifts 10 lbs. or less infrequently. Sits, bends, stands, walks, reaches over head and stoops frequently. May push/pull.

The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
