Principal Tasks:

• Contribute to the design of digital devices from conception to production including but not limited to: feasibility studies, device technology choices, component selection, device architecture development, design specifications, design and test development, high level verification methods, production testing, lab support, and defect resolution

• Technical tasks include: resource estimation, RTL coding, behavioral descriptions and modeling, testcase and/or testbench development, logic synthesis, place and route floor planning, test vector generation, functional test coverage, formal analysis, thermal analysis, AC timing, DC characteristics, pinout, packaging, etc.

• Work independently to deliver correct engineering solutions with little to no guidance from more senior designers

• Demonstrate the ability to work at the system architecture level in multiple areas

• Considered a group expert in at least one or more technical areas and consulted by others for this expertise. Channel this technical expertise toward project goals consistently on complex projects of key value to the company

• Provide technical support to project team members

• Mentor and provide leadership to new engineers in technical issues to help them understand the architecture, design, processes, tools, etc.

• Adhere to department procedures regarding computer file structure, design file management, device specifications, coding guidelines, synthesis guidelines, and file security

• Implement industry standards and proprietary product features

• Contribute to high level discussions with Engineering Management and Product Planning in reference to development planning, high level design architecture, resource estimation, and project scheduling

• Follow and offer improvements to design, verification, and backend methodologies

• Contribute to specification, design, and test reviews at the IP, module, or chip level

• Attend and possibly make presentations at industry forums such as standards committees, technical customer meetings, etc.

• Able to maintain FPGA/IP development goals while working with project management guidance. Ensure ASIC/FPGA project specific design requirements will be met on schedule

• Report to the Manager of the ASIC/FPGA Development

Supplementary Tasks:

• Implement and validate 3rd party IP solutions

• Script in shell/Tcl to aide in analysis/processes/automation

• Provide assistance with new hire candidate interviews and hiring decisions

• Support existing products that are released into production

• Assist in team building at other sites. This may include limited travel.

Skills / Qualifications / Training / Experience:

Basic Qualifications

• BS or MS degree in electrical or computer engineering or related field

• Legally authorized to work in the US

• Operates at the equivalent of an engineer with 8+ years of relevant experience (5+ with MS)

• Participated in at least 3 full telecom/datacom product design life cycles

• Experience in design or test with large FPGA or ASIC designs.

• Knowledge in high speed digital/analog circuit design

• Experience with building scalable simulation/verification environments.

• Knowledge of PLLs, clock and reset architectures

• Knowledge of physical implementation methods and requirements of high-speed electronic systems

• Adequate knowledge of OS: Windows and Linux/CentOS based environments

• Proficient in HDL languages, Verilog, VHDL, and SystemVerilog

• Tool proficiency: Mentor Questa, Xilinx Vivado/ISE/EDK

• Capable of representing the Engineering department within company forums Physical Demands and Working Environment

• Ability to regularly work a minimum of 40 hours per week

• Ability to use a computer keyboard and screen for extensive periods of time

• Able to work at a desk majority of the day

• Limited Travel

• Moderate lifting of up to 20lbs
