Job Description:

The Manager of Plant Operations oversees engineering staff and functions, while maintaining an advanced level of skills and expertise. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and ensures the activities of the Plant Services, Bio-Med, EVS and Security programs of assigned hospitals are completed in a timely manner. Maintains the Physical Structures, HVAC, Mechanical, Electrical Systems, Utilities, and Grounds of the hospital in a safe and operative working condition. Responsible for the planning and coordination of regulatory requirements and documentation for Life Safety, Utilities, Hazardous Materials and Security. Ensures that emergency procedures are executed as prescribed, including applicable training of staff. Meets the requirements set forth by The Joint Commission, NFPA and the authorities having jurisdiction.As an acute care, 50-bed community hospital, Norwalk Community Hospital provide quality healthcare to the Norwalk and surrounding communities. This includes our 24/7 emergency department and more than a dozen specialties, including pulmonary, gastrointestinal, cardiology, internal medicine, orthopedics, surgical services and more.Required Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 7 years of plant ops experience with at least 2 years previous supervisory experience

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English

  • Knowledge of fire life safety systems, hazardous materials, and utility management

  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory CMS and TJC requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to make accurate observations in a variety of situations, including emergencies and adverse or potential hazardous conditions

  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues

  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual skills

Pay Rate: Min - $73,300 | Max - $98,043

  • Oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the department, such as corrective and preventive maintenance for all equipment, management of the work order system, and troubleshooting and resolving issues as they occur for assigned facility(s). Provides and maintains structure and leads regular meetings with staff and provides timely updates to leadership, including hospital administrators. Implements operational objectives, goals, and specific strategies required to support and achieve the strategic outcomes (capital equipment/replacement/maintenance) of the department. Demonstrates advanced level of expertise and collaboration when dealing with leadership and staff.

  • Ensures the hospital and maintenance staff maintains compliance with federal, state, city, local regulatory agencies and organizations such as the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), Center for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), Department of Public Health and Human Services (CDPH), Fire Departments, and City Ordinances. Consults with each site to ensure compliance. Performs Routine EOC Rounding on a timely and structured basis and ensures that the facilities team remains up to date on items involving regulation and compliance.

  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels. Oversees contracts, contract labor, orientation, and evaluation. Provides effective oversight and guidance of staff, including audits of activities and documentation. Responsible for scheduling/staffing, coaching, training, hiring, firing, counseling, performance evaluations and competencies, and payroll process.

  • Effectively manages staff in compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, and all established policies, procedures, and legal guidelines. Appropriately interacts with, educates and mentors, remains available to staff, and demonstrates a "hands-on" and/or collaborative management approach. Leads/participates in company initiatives, such as employee engagement, to support a team-oriented culture. Acts as a coach and positive role model for staff by establishing and maintaining a safe work environment that fosters positive morale.
