Job Description:

The Developer Relations Design Lead is an experienced specialist in design systems, and in helping front-end developers implement components and patterns in a user-centric way. As a member of the User Experience team, the Developer Relations Design Lead is an analytical thinker that understands the importance of accessible, usable, and elegant interfaces. They work collaboratively with designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers to educate, uphold the standards, support the creation, contribution, and adoption of design system components, patterns and philosophies.

The Developer Relations Design Lead establishes and reinforces the proper implementation of a functional presentation layer, focusing on consistency in the implementation of a smooth, intuitive user. They are passionate about bridging the gap between design intent and development constraints, and problem-solving in a complex environment. They are a natural leader and possess a strong knowledge of Vue, HTML and CSS. They can solve complex problems both independently and collaboratively, while supporting the long-term experience strategy from a user-first perspective. They have a good sense of humor, their own philosophies, and a bright outlook.

Responsibilities


  • Partner with core FUSION design system team to define the design standards from atomic components to complex patterns, maintaining a holistic view of the product ecosystem, with a preference for system-wide solutions over one-offs.


  • Lead advocate for engineering components and patterns to be both responsive to screen / container size and adaptive to multiple forms of input (including mouse, keyboard, touch, and more), while partnering with our accessibility design lead to develop accessible components and help app teams implement accessible semantic markup


  • Drive the execution and adoption of the FactSet FUSION design system, working closely with application engineers to educate and support implementation of standardized UI components and patterns, collaborating with product teams and full-stack engineers to support front-end best practices and implementation of the design system


  • Be the UX team expert in front end technologies, particularly Vue, HTML & CSS. Educate designers on front end technical topics to help them stay current and aid in their design ideation processes. Collaborate with UX & UI designers to evaluate enhancements to existing work.


  • Design and test modular UI controls and components, with accompanying documentation, that can be used by multiple teams. Work closely with the UI Standards Engineering team on the FUSION components


  • Effectively communicate changes, improvements and functionality to designers, product teams, and engineers. Work hand-in-hand with peers to ensure that the overall experience remains cohesive as the system evolves.


  • Provide training and contribute to resources for team learning (documentation, etc.) while constantly seeking to expand and improve on those resources.


  • Independently work to resolve conflicts between design aspirations and code limitations


  • Independently audit, update and maintain integrity of design system component code base .


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field


  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience working with design and front-end developers on enterprise level software, with team lead experience preferred.


  • Case studies demonstrating successful creation and implementation of a complex, modular design system


  • Ability to empathize, influence, and drive user-centered design across a collaborative and inclusive global environment.



  • Experience working within a UX team in an environment with multiple stakeholders .


  • Familiarity with how modern application frameworks (ex: Vue) manage dependencies, components, and state.


  • Ability to review and comment on implementation of Vue3, HTML, CSS to help ensure valid, accessible, semantic markup


  • Strong knowledge of and experience using CSS Flexbox and CSS Grid


  • Solid understanding of professional methodologies and best practices used to develop and implement a complex front-end environment


  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill information, generate ideas, design scalable solutions, and drive consensus


  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and defend design approaches and decisions, handle disagreements with poise and professionalism, and communicate effectively in any setting


  • Capable of handling responsibilities with minimal oversight, working effectively both independently and as a contributing member of a team, and collaborative by nature


  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills


  • Experience designing for financial professionals or comparable users in data-heavy applications


  • Experience with accessibility and inclusive design best practices


  • Adept with agile thinking and lean practices that deliver incremental user value while also driving consistent, holistic experiences


The budgeted salary range for this position in the state of Connecticut and New York City is $140,000 - $180,000.
