Scope of Position
Clinical Labs is responsible for pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic functions on clinical specimens to obtain information about the health of a patient as pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease; assisting care providers with clinical information related to patient care, education, and research. Lab Compliance tracks, monitors, educates, and provides feedback to multidisciplinary teams performing laboratory testing. Responsible for understanding various laboratory testing, documentation, and retention of records to ensure compliance with laboratory regulations for testing locations. Responsible for all preparation, maintenance, compliance and/or audits related to the inspections, guidelines and state and federal laws.
The Lab Compliance Consultant utilizes in-depth knowledge, project management, and influencing skills when working with a team or on a project. Is primary responsible for the maintenance of compliance and accreditation programs: including but not limited to: Document Control Systems, Laboratory Information Management Systems, Laboratory Billing, Referral Laboratory Services, Laboratory Inspections and Compliance risk assessments. The Lab Compliance Consultant works with a multidisciplinary team of laboratory and medical center team members to provide expertise as they develop, align, and operationalize the program's clinical, academic, and research activities to support the overall OSUWMC goals. This Compliance officer works independently and services as the Primary Resource for OSUWMC Laboratories service departments to many complex Medical Center processes.
Position Summary
The Lab Compliance Consultant promotes an environment that facilitates development of understanding related to quality, compliance, and professional growth. The Laboratory Compliance Consultant Officer applies developed industry knowledge and advanced understanding of concepts, principles and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects related to Compliance and Accreditation. They are responsible for all preparations related to accreditation inspections and regulatory surveys, maintaining compliance with applicable agency standards (may include FDA, AABB, CAP, and Joint Commission), and performing monthly audits. This includes tracking laboratory documentation, providing educational materials, auditing records, personnel files and laboratory policies, and offering compliance and regulatory guidance to laboratory staff. Ensures procedures are written, reviewed, and implemented to be compliant with the directives of the above organizations and agencies. The Laboratory Compliance Consultant Officer will also serve as the QPulse Administrator for the Clinical Laboratories, Laboratory Liaison to IT for Information Management, CAP Team Coordinator, and Medical Center Compliance Representative.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Biological Science with Medical Technology certification (must be obtained within one year) and 6 years of relevant laboratory experience,
Prefer: 8-12 years experience, Master's Degree preferred in Allied Health, Business or Health Administration.
Skilled in use of Excel, Power Point, Access, Front Page, Adobe PDF Maker preferred. Experience, education, and/or certification in compliance programs preferred. Ability to interact effectively and as an advocate with physicians, staff, and external parties. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
