The extensive global utilization of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) across several decades has led to their profound impact on aquatic environments. Developing innovative approaches for effectively eliminating PFAS presents a significant challenge and an opportunity to enhance our comprehension of the underlying chemistry involved in degrading these distinctive compounds. The Chae group at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of Cincinnati, is actively seeking a motivated and collaborative post-doctoral scholar to undertake the following responsibilities: 1) Synthesizing FeSO3 redox materials, 2) Assessing these materials' characteristics and gauging their technological efficacy, 3) Conducting a comprehensive analysis of PFAS transformation byproducts utilizing cutting-edge mass spectrometry techniques, and 4) Validating the effectiveness of the integrated treatment system using samples from groundwater, retentate water from membranes, water from ion exchange resin regeneration, and aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF)-impacted waters.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or expect to finish their Ph.D. shortly) in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline.
