Job Title:Editorial Student WorkerDepartment:Arts and Sciences | University Press-JM

The editorial student worker will work closely with the book managing editor and project editor at OSU Press to assist in the editorial processes involved in producing finished books. The student will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of editorial work, including: formatting and styling manuscripts for typesetting, copyediting and proofreading, and professional communication. The role also includes light administrative tasks and the opportunity to learn more about nonprofit scholarly and trade publishing.



Will assist in the editorial/production process, which involves: preparing author files for copyediting (cleaning up, styling, and formatting); checking alt text for accessibility; copyediting indexes; fact-checking marketing materials; reviewing page proofs and finalizing pages for publication; and light administrative tasks such as scanning and filing copyright certificates or database input.




  • Self-motivated individual with an interest in the publishing industry or editorial work

  • Highly detail-oriented

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Rank of rising junior or senior at OSU

  • Must be able to pass a copyediting test

  • Some on-site time is required (position is hybrid)



Preference will be given to candidates with:



  • Undergraduate work in English or a related field

  • Familiarity with CMS and MLA style guidelines
