The department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate 1, SOM position. The incumbent supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
Participates in the publication of significant results.
Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
Research Associate position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Rumela Chakrabarti in the Department of Surgery, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami. The lab is interested in understanding drug resistance and lack of response of patients to therapies in breast cancer. Particularly, we are interested in understanding the crosstalk with immune cells and cancer cells in breast cancer. Our projects rely heavily on mouse models (knockout mice, conditional knockout mice, transgenic mice, PDX mice) and primary cell culture and cell line models (2D/3D organoids).
Bachelor's Degree in Biology
Master's Degree in Biology preferred
Minimum 1-2 year of lab work experience preferred
Skill in cell culture -primary and cancer cell lines
Ability to organize and catalogue lab stock and place lab orders
