SUMMARY



The Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care, working evening and night shifts, plays a pivotal role in providing advanced clinical care to critically ill patients during non-traditional hours. This position requires advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the ability to make autonomous decisions in high-pressure situations.

SCHEDULE: Evening/Night




ATTRIBUTES



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an Inpatient Medicine or Critical Care setting required

  • Board certification in Critical Care preferred

  • Advanced proficiency in performing critical care procedures and managing complex medical conditions

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Willingness to work evening and night shifts, including weekends and holidays


RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Patient Assessment and Management
    . Conduct comprehensive assessments of critically ill patients, including physical examinations, diagnostic test interpretation, and monitoring of vital signs. Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Manage acute and chronic conditions, including but not limited to respiratory failure, sepsis, cardiac emergencies, and neurological crises.


  • Advanced Procedures. Perform advanced procedures as indicated, such as central line placements, arterial line insertions, lumbar punctures, and chest tube placements. Administer medications and interventions via various routes, ensuring accurate dosing and monitoring for adverse effects.


  • Emergency Response. Respond rapidly to emergent situations, including cardiac arrests, respiratory distress, and trauma resuscitations. Provide advanced life support interventions, including airway management, defibrillation, and initiation of vasoactive medications.


  • Collaboration and Communication. Collaborate closely with attending physicians, fellows, residents, and nursing staff to ensure seamless coordination of care. Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education, support, and updates on the patient's condition and treatment plan. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to care conferences to optimize patient outcomes.


  • Documentation and Quality Improvement. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence-based practices to enhance patient care and safety.


  • Professional Development. Stay current with advances in critical care medicine through participation in continuing education activities, conferences, and professional organizations. Pursue opportunities for professional growth and specialization, such as obtaining certifications in critical care or advanced procedural skills.


EDUCATION:



  • MS: Nursing (Required)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.



LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:



  • NP - Nurse Practitioner Certification - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

  • RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)


PAY RANGE: $95,000.00 - $150,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
