Shift Mon-Fri, day shift. Approx. 20-25 hours/week.
Job Summary This position is responsible for assisting in duties related to the Toxicology Section of the UK Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) for diagnosis of illness in animals. These tasks include the following: Log in specimens. Prepare samples for testing as needed. Perform chemical analyses as described in procedures handbook. Report results in an accurate, timely manner. Participate in quality assurance program for laboratory and follow standard operating procedures. Participate in a safety program for laboratory. Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner. Prepare reagents and standards. Clean glassware. Requisition supplies as needed. Update chemical inventory regularly. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of instrumentation and equipment as requested. Assure that reagents are not expired and are stored properly in the laboratory. Maintain the laboratory in a clean state by cleaning floors, counters, removing trash, and other cleaning duties as needed and as directed.
