General Summary:



Complete case finding, abstracting and follow-up activities necessary to maintain an approved Teaching Hospital Cancer Program as required by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Assist with statistical analysis of data and responding to data requests. Assist in training of registry staff members.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):



Oncology Data Specialist Certificate (required)



Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:



1-3 years of cancer registry experience required. Associate's degree preferred, with completed college level courses in medical terminology and anatomy/physiology. If no Associate's degree, an additional 2 years of cancer registry experience can be used in lieu of the degree. Ability to perform case ascertainment of cancer cases. Ability to analyze and abstract pertinent information from the medical record (i.e.: pathology reports, diagnostic radiology reports and other pertinent information relating to the diagnosis of cancer), into a computerized cancer registry software system. Possess knowledge of first course treatment recommended for specific primary cancers. Ability to obtain follow-up and other pertinent information for each abstract by contacting other hospital registries, radiation oncology centers and medical oncologists offices. Ability to assist with other functions relating to Cancer Program Management and preparation for the American College of Surgeons Accreditation process. Ability to assist with national studies. Ability to organize Cancer Conferences. Ability to use other software programs relating to database management and statistical outcomes. Ability to assess statistical data for quality of content. Reliable, energetic and self-motivated; ability to work independently, work in a team environment, and work with minimal supervision.



Reporting Relationship:



Reports to the Cancer Registry Manager.
