Overview

Clinical: The primary duties include direct and indirect patient care, including:

  • Perform in-patient consultation and follow up
  • Pre-procedure H&P and consents
  • Present patients at multidisciplinary thoracic tumor board
  • Assist with procedures based on experience and comfort level (optional)
  • Independently perform basic pleural procedures (optional)
  • Patient education (PleurX training, shared decision-making, tobacco cessation counseling, trach education, etc.)
  • Follow up and manage patients with tracheostomies performed by IP
  • Participation in clinical trials
  • New and follow up consultation visits
  • Collaborate with RN in patient navigation (procedures, referrals to specialists, diagnostic studies, etc.)
  • Manage in-basket messages, mychart messages, and triage referrals.
  • Perform medical reviews for new referrals.
  • Pre-procedure and pre-op evaluation.
  • Order diagnostic studies/procedures.
  • Review results from radiology, pathology, lab work, and other diagnostic studies
  • Present patients at multidisciplinary thoracic tumor board
  • Overlap with Lung nodule program
  • Develop and maintain clinical and research databases
  • Patient education
  • Independently perform QA/QI of the IP service
    • The APP faculty is expected to work 32 hrs/week direct patient care, 45 weeks/year; variable evening, weekend and holiday coverage by specialty. Minimum 4 hours/week reserved for indirect patient care; 4 hours/week for faculty pursuits.

Education and Quality Improvement: This position participates in the division’s teaching activities, including divisional conferences, student and fellow didactics and on OHSU committees as expected and approved by the Division and Department.

Specific expectations also include:

  • Orientation and education of trainees and nursing staff on the care standards and protocols for the IP service.
  • Education of nursing staff, fellows, residents and medical students in formal and informal settings.
  • Participation in all relevant conferences and team meetings.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary and interprofessional care team members to establish or revise clinical pathways and patient education materials.

Administration: There are no specific administrative responsibilities assigned at this time. Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.



Responsibilities

Nursing Advanced Practice Provider

  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in the specialty of Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG ACNP), Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner, from an accredited program.
  • Current RN and NP licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing.
  • Current ANCC Certification in the area of specialization.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • DEA certification

Physician Assistant Advanced Practice Provider

  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board.
  • Current NCCPA Certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • DEA certification

In addition to the above:

  • Minimum 2 years experience as an Advanced Practice Provider


Qualifications

  • Experience in preforming and/or assisting in pulmonary procedures is desired.
  • Prior work experience in general Pulmonary, ICU, IR or Thoracic surgery strongly preferred.
