The Role
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
This position supports the Nuclear Engineering department E86 for the Columbia Class Submarine (CLB) program. Specifically, this position is for the Nuclear Structures and Shielding Team, which provides technical support and oversight for the construction and assembly of the Primary Shield Tank (PST).
For this position, typical responsibilities include evaluating model-based design data and segmenting it into appropriate formatting that supports the planned build sequence. This includes proper communication of technical authority and build authority information and requirements. A successful candidate will possess strong organization, time management, communication, and technical design skills.
Duties include:
1. Produce Manufacturing Data Workset (MDW) views to accompany Nuclear Engineering Work Instructions to support Visual Work Instruction packages for CLB PST construction activities. Also perform review/checking activities on MDW views produced by peers.
2. Prepare and publish Technical Data Packages that include MDW views, Nuclear Engineering Work Instructions, and other applicable attachments.
3. Coordinate with engineering team to appropriately plan Work Instruction development tasks to support work package checkpoints and construction activities.
4. Communicate procedure, process, and best practice updates from E92 to the rest of the E86 team, as necessary.
5. Participate in testing activities during Teamcenter software upgrade events to ensure functionality for E86 processes are not adversely affected, or are updated as intended.
6. Review applicable CLB Model-Based Manufacturing procedures for which E86 is a stakeholder, as necessary.
7. Train and mentor junior designers on the team.

Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
