Career Center Director -Sault Area Public Schools

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate

 

  1. Three (3) years in administering and/or teaching in CTE programs.

 

  1. Successful experience as a Career and Technical Education teacher.

 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of current educational issues and practices including school improvement, restorative practices, social emotional learning, school climate issues, and maintaining a safe learning environment.

 

  1. Experienced in management of student discipline and attendance with ability to establish programs and procedures to improve student behaviors.

 

  1. Demonstrate leadership qualities and the ability to relate to students, staff, and parents.

 

  1. Strong commitment to continuous learning and relationship strengthening.

 

  1. Able to collaborate/partner, share ideas/best practices, and efficiency of services with other districts and administrators.

 

  1. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Reports to: Sault High Principal 

 

General Description:

 

The Career Center Director assumes overall responsibility for the successful operation of the Career Center under their authority. The director is responsible
for improvement of instruction, administrative procedures, and support services of
the school.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Collaborate between agencies and coordinate activities to encourage offering CTE and/or employment and training options.

 

  1. Participate in marketing CTE activities with other agencies in the CEPD.

 

  1. Collaborate and coordinate articulation credit with postsecondary establishments.

 

  1. Monitor and ensure that eligible CTE students earn the approved credentials.

 

  1. Determine all aspects of credentials to be coordinated at the local district level.

 

  1. Oversee all aspects of CTE data collection and submission for CTEIS and all state/federal required reports.

 

  1. Responsible for documenting, promoting and/or providing appropriate learning activities for CTE teachers in the district.

 

  1. Assure that the district’s CTE delivery system is approved by the local/Intermediate School District (ISD) Board of Education, is based upon goals and objectives that are consistent with the regional goals,

 

  1. Provide leadership for conducting CTE CIP Self-Review.

 

  1. Analyze local CTE data collected.

 

  1. Provide leadership and direction to CTE staff, district administrators and/or school boards for program evaluation and improvement.

 

  1. Plan and promote activities for the districts to create increased understanding and awareness of CTE programs, needs, and successes.

 

  1. Monitor and ensure all employees have proper credentials, curriculum is consistent with state program standards, programs operate safely and with the proper resources.

 

  1. Assure that appropriately certified or approved personnel, including support personnel, are employed in all positions requiring such qualifications.

 

  1. Provide technical assistance to district administration and staff to meet state and federal guidelines and requirements for state approved CTE programs.

 

  1. Ensure that CTE curriculum is consistent with state program standards and competencies, and representative of labor market needs.

 

  1. Facilitate and/or coordinate the acquisition and identification of appropriate instructional equipment, supplies, and materials for all state approved CTE programs in the district.

 

  1. Monitor and ensure that programs operate in facilities that are safe, accessible, and that equipment meets or exceeds local, state, and federal guidelines.

 

  1. Prepare and oversee the district’s budget for CTE funds in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer.

 

  1. Provide leadership and technical assistance to staff regarding use of materials, services, and strategies that help support and promote equal access, diversity, and inclusion of special population students, including gender equity.

 

  1. Promote and actively encourage co-curricular involvement in CTE student organizations and ensure that all program participants engage in leadership growth/learning opportunities.

 

  1. Coordinate CTE Early Middle College with district, university, and families.

 

  1. Provide leadership to ensure CTE program advisory committees are established and utilized in planning, reviewing, and promoting each CTE program the district operates.

 

  1. Ensure and support availability of career guidance and academic counselors that provide information on postsecondary options.

 

  1. Assure all district state approved CTE programs meet CTE program quality standards.

 

  1. Conduct district program reviews to assure that state approved CTE programs meet the National ACTE High-Quality Program of Study criteria.

 

  1. Coordinate and promote activities for career and technical organizations.

 

  1. Collaborate and coordinate with Sault High administration team on all aspects of the school day, calendar, year, activities, discipline, etc.

 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

 

Terms of Employment: 215 days

Compensation: As determined by the Administrative Compensation Guide. Full health benefits,

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.  EOE
