Working in the Advising Center, the primary purpose of this pro-rata faculty position is to provide intake and ongoing academic advising. This faculty position will align the outlined contract days with the needs of student advising, and will have a significant summer commitment. Although this position is heavily focused on advising, there will be opportunities to teach student success courses as needed.This will be a 2/3 (67%) position contracted for 177 days to be distributed between summer, fall, winter, and spring quarters.Duties and Responsibilities 60% advising and career planning with students:

    Effectively work with students to identify career goals and select programs and courses intended to meet those goals.Guide students, primarily Running Start students, through various college processes in order to be successful.Advise students on a quarterly basis and track student progress throughout program completion.Serve as the primary intake advisor for the Counseling Center.
7% instruction, curriculum development and assessment of student learning and program outcomes.
    Serve the needs of students who represent a board spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicities, and educational and cultural backgrounds; infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.Collaborate with Adjunct faculty student success course instructors to integrate accepted learning techniques.Assess student learning and revise curriculum as needed.Use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other types of technology in a manner that enhances student learning and outcomes.Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through pedagogical practices and curriculum development.Serve on campus committees that support the college's mission.
Qualifications
    Master's Degree in Education, Human Services, Mental Health, Counseling, or closely related field; AND 2 years of relevant work experience in an educational setting.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of Higher Education Systems: Understanding of college admission processes, financial aid options, academic programs, and campus resources.Understanding of Student Development: Knowledge of theories and practices related to student development, including academic, personal, and career development.Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations, including students, parents, faculty, and staff, both verbally and in writing.Advising Techniques: Familiarity with advising techniques such as active listening, goal setting, and problem-solving to assist students in achieving their academic and career goals.Assessment and Evaluation: Ability to assess students' needs, evaluate their progress, and adjust advising strategies accordingly.Cultural Competency: Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural, social, and economic diversity among college students, and the ability to provide equitable and inclusive advising services.Technology Proficiency: Comfort with using technology for tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining student records, and accessing online resources.Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across campus departments to support student success and coordinate resources.Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to identify challenges students may face and develop appropriate solutions or referrals to campus support services.Ethical and Legal Compliance: Understanding of ethical principles and legal requirements related to student confidentiality, privacy laws, and professional conduct in advising.Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying informed about trends and developments in higher education, advising best practices, and relevant policies and regulations.Empathy and Supportive Attitude: Demonstrated empathy and a supportive attitude towards students, recognizing and respecting their individual strengths, challenges, and aspirations.
Preferred Qualifications
    Teaching experience, preferably in a Higher Education setting.Experience in student advising or career planning.Skills necessary to assess curriculum and or objective effectiveness.Work or educational experience working with diverse, underrepresented or traditionally marginalized populations.Experience in collaborating or working in a team environment in order to achieve common goals.

This is a 2/3 (67%) pro-rata faculty appointment with employment expected to begin Summer Quarter 2024, subject to state legislative funding. The State of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for all state employees.

Compensation


Placement on the established faculty salary schedule is dependent upon education and teaching experience.The salary range for a 177-day contract is $45,028.69 - $67,519.25.
