Department

Administratively housed within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, the Department includes 10 faculty and 90 graduate students and offers a PAB-accredited professional master's degree, a Ph.D., and an undergraduate minor. The Department offers joint graduate pathways in Planning/Demography, Planning/International Affairs, Planning/Law, Planning/Public Administration, and Planning/Public Health. The PhD program has research emphases in planning for an aging population; healthy and resilient communities; sustainable communities; transportation, land use, and accessibility; collaborative and participatory governance; community neighborhood change; and human settlements and institutions in the context of global change. College and university partners include the Center for Disaster Risk Policy, the Pepper Institute for Aging and Public Policy, and the Center for Demography and Population Health.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach two courses semester one and three courses semester two. The candidate will be required to teach an undergraduate section of Collective Decisions in Fall 2024 and a graduate section of Local Government and Land Use Law in Spring 2025. These courses have been successfully taught many times, and materials to guide course design can be provided. We will consider candidates from all areas of expertise that align with our programmatic mission and curriculum. We are also interested in candidates who can contribute to our commitment to multiculturalism, equity, and cultural competency. The successful candidate will advise students in our master's degree program.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold (or be expected to receive prior to August 2024) a doctorate in urban and regional planning, or an equivalent degree in a related field, and must demonstrate teaching excellence.
