Job Description:

Baker Botts, a full-service, leading international law firm recognized for our understanding of the industries we serve, is seeking a Litigation Paralegal Clerk. Under the direct supervision of Paralegals and Lawyers, this position will assist with all aspects of litigation and trial preparation and requires flexibility and some long hours. This position is ideal for a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree, excellent grades, and plans to apply to law school within the next two to three years. This is a full-time non-exempt position based in our Austin, Dallas or Houston offices with excellent benefits.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective high quality professional administrative and research support to lawyers, paralegals, and other legal support staff.
  • Organize client files and maintain filing system for entire client/matter file.
  • Manage dockets and correspondence to ensure accurate procedural workflow.
  • Conduct factual research.
  • Review, organize and draft documents.
  • Prepare legal filings.
  • Prepare exhibit and witness notebooks.
  • Proofread legal documents.
  • Assist with trial preparation.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisors, lawyers, paralegals, or Office Administrator (some tasks may support practice areas other than the Litigation Department).

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Bachelor’s Degree required; interest in applying to law school within the next two to three years is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience using Microsoft productivity tools (Intermediate/Advanced): Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Ability to proofread materials for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, photocopiers, scanners and fax.

High Level of Contact With:

  • DTS Paralegal Manager
  • Lawyers, paralegals, and other legal support staff

Moderate Level of Contact With:

  • Disputes Technology & Services (DTS) Practice Group Leader
  • eDiscovery and Litigation Technology staff
  • Information Technology staff

Occasional Level of Contact With:

  • Vendor representatives

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift boxes of files weighing approximately 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry file folders weighing up to 5-10 pounds.
  • Must be able to spend long periods of time working at computer workstation.
  • Must be able to lift, squat, kneel and bend.

Work Conditions and Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Position is full-time and requires a five-day work week and standard hours as outlined in the firm policy manual. Work frequently requires more than the regularly scheduled hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must be available to work overtime, including weekend hours, when necessary to meet established deadlines or stay current with occasional peaks in workload. Must be willing to change regular work schedule to meet the needs of the Firm.
  • This role may be hybrid and will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office, and up to two days per week (40%) may be performed remotely.
For positions based in the NYC office of Baker Botts L.L.P., the salary range is $27.20 to $40.80 per hour.
