Job Description:

Exciting opportunity in our Stroke Institute. Full-time, exempt role.

Responsible for training and managing a research team to coordinate and maintain excellence in initiating, executing and managing process-related activities in clinical research. Must have a clear understanding of all research study protocols, maintain strong clinical practice, and compliance per university and sponsor requirements. Needs excellent communication skills with study staff, leadership, and sponsors.

Essential Functions

• Manages the research agenda for the area. Oversees overall operations of multiple research programs.

• Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel, research nurses and administrative staff.

• Manages partnerships between clinicians and research scientists, internal and external to the University.

• Manages the annual budget and is responsible for the overall fiscal management of the program. Negotiates service contracts, reports on progress and authorizes expenditures.

• Informs upper management of key activities.

• Assists in sponsored project proposals to private sponsors, governmental agencies, and industry sponsors. Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of sponsored project applications.

• May conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.

• Develops on-going strategic plans for the programs.

• Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes presentations at professional meetings. May participate in committees as deemed appropriate by the program leadership.

• Provides consultative expertise regarding policy and/or regulatory questions.

• Stays abreast of new and updated protocols.

• Manages Human Resources activities for the programs, including recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's Degree in Science or a health administration-related field required

• 7 years of applicable experience required

• May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

• Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills.

Position Summary:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills.
Depending on research may require Registered Nurse within the State of Texas.
Depending on research may require Clinical Research Coordinator certification.
May require program specific certifications.

Minimum Education:

Bachelors degree in Science or a Health Administration related field.

Minimum Experience:

Seven years of applicable experience.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
