As an OU Operations Program Director, you will be a member of the Advanced Surgical Technologies (AST) Team, within the Surgical business, reporting to the OU Ops Sr. Director.

The AST OU Operations Program Director is the Portfolio Leader for the Hardware (HW) Portfolio, which is essential for driving growth and increasing Medtronic's overall share in the Energy Market. This is a business-critical role as the $200M HW Portfolio enables the broader $2B Energy Portfolio.

As the Portfolio Leader, the Program Director is responsible for the full Operations value stream and ensuring strategic alignment between Global Operations & Supply Chain (GO&SC) and the Operating Unit (OU). The Portfolio leader is the Operations voice in OU focused forums and the OU voice in GO&SC focused forums.

The Program Director will lead the Hardware Core Team and establish a Hardware governance structure to manage interdependencies between NPD, RPM, and manufacturing driven projects. The Program Director will lead the prioritization of cross-functional activities and will direct day to day activities to ensure business objectives are achieved. They will use judgment to assess tradeoffs and will hold the team accountable to their commitments.

This position resides in the Medtronic facility located in Lafayette, Colorado and will work between the Lafayette and Boulder facilities. Hybrid work is an option.

A Day in the Life


  • Accountable to the OU Operations Sr. Director for overall portfolio and program execution.
  • Ensures cross-functional alignment and serves as a liaison between marketing, NPD, RPM/RPE, supply chain, operations (manufacturing, sourcing), finance, and other supporting functions such as quality, regulatory, and service.
  • Communicate effectively with internal/external customers about HW operational health.
  • Responsible for driving projects to ensure operational health in the near and long term. This includes: supply risk assessments/mitigations, portfolio lifecycle management (PLM), long range planning (LRP), capacity planning, new product launches and supplier stabilization.
  • Ensures that cross-functional resources are assigned & held accountable to commitments.
  • Ensures that programs are completed on time and meet established goals and objectives that support the financial and competitive goals of the organization.
  • Manages projects within portfolio and makes commitments to meet business objectives.
  • Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  • Coaches team members to ensure process adherence and effective project management, utilizing best practice project management skills, as well as framing and resolving issues through IBP and the RPM/PDP process and other best practices.
  • Provides feedback to functional leaders during AOP, strategic planning, and performance management process.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet goals and objectives.
  • Assess and drive opportunities for continuous program improvements.
  • Identify & drive a service improvement initiative that furthers the operational health of HW.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years program/project management related to product development and 7+ years of people management/technical leadership experience OR
  • Advanced Degree with 7+ years program/project management related to product development and 7+ years of people management/technical leadership experience

Nice to Have

  • Advanced Degree in engineering or scientific discipline or an MBA
  • Program Management Qualification: PMP Certification
  • Medical device experience a plus.
  • Strong track record of leading complex projects requiring strong influence management skills and willingness and ability to institute change
  • Exceptional project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices.
  • Competent in ERP systems namely DRP, MRPII, JIT, IBP/S&OP processes and methodologies (SAP, Blue Yonder experience an advantage).
  • Business Acumen: ability to think from an overall "best for the business" perspective
  • Operational Excellence mindset: Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification, is an advantage.
  • Able to adapt communication style to varied audiences and stakeholder groups.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
