Overview

The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for the payroll tax activities of over twenty FEINS and the reporting and reconciliation of payroll tax and accounting information. This role will also provide support for other activities within the Payroll Department, including but not limited to, acquisitions, payroll conversions, system testing, projects, and process improvements.

Responsibilities

Payroll Tax


  • Accountable for the accuracy and timeliness of all federal, state, and local tax deposits and filings made by the payroll tax vendor.

  • Drive and support quarterly and year-end reconciliation processes to ensure accurate returns and W-2s.

  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of tax account and rate information within the payroll system.

  • Accountable for research and resolution of inquiries from taxing authorities.

  • Responsible for case management and driving escalations with the tax filing vendor.

  • Responsible for workers comp, BLS statistical, and certified payroll reporting.

  • Responsible for tax activities related to acquisitions, reorganizations, and system upgrades.

  • Drive process improvements for payroll tax and reporting activities.

  • Participate in system testing for payroll conversions and new set-ups.

  • Ensure documentation of all payroll tax and payroll accounting procedures.

  • Provide payroll tax and regulatory expertise and assist with team training activities.

  • Serve as point of contact for payroll tax audits.


Payroll Accounting

  • Accountable for accurate and timely reporting to Treasury and Accounting each payroll, which includes journal entries, funding, cash, and liability information.

  • Responsible for GL configuration within the payroll system for multiple businesses.

  • Drive and support payroll activities related to the bank recon, coordinating with corporate accountant on adjustments.

  • Research and reply to inquiries from Accounting in a timely manner.

  • Provide ad-hoc reporting as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Complies with federal and state legal and tax regulations.

  • Complies with Corporate procedures and SOX controls.

  • Maintains proper record keeping in accordance with Corporate policy.


Qualifications Knowledge & Skill:

  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local tax filing requirements.

  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting procedures, journal entries, and general ledger.

  • Experience with tax activities related to acquisitions, payroll conversions, and system testing.

  • Experience with payroll tax account registration, set up, and maintenance.

  • Strong math, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and produce accurate results.

  • Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, etc.).

  • Strong work ethic and a team player attitude.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong aptitude for learning new systems and processes.


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Undergraduate or Associates degree in Accounting preferred.

  • CPP designation preferred.


Experience:

  • 5+ years of payroll tax filing experience in a multi-state payroll environment.

  • 5+ years of experience reconciling payroll tax and accounting data.

  • 3-5 years of payroll journal entry and general ledger experience.

  • Ultimate Software experience a plus
