Job Description:

SUMMARY:


The Senior Accountant is responsible for the both technical and analysis side of the accounting activities at the University of Richmond. The Senior Accountant's responsibilities include preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing tax returns, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.


RESPONSIBILITIES:



Accounting Responsibilities

  • Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger account balances.
  • Preparing federal, state, local, and special tax returns including University 990.
  • Assisting with Preparation 403b plan financial statements.
  • Preparing year-end financial and audit workpapers.
  • Assisting with fixed asset and capital accounting.
  • Assessing internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
  • Prepares journal entries and advanced accounting entries.
  • Contributing to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
  • Assisting with endowment accounting including gift reconciliation, recording gains and losses, and reviewing gift documentation.

Accounting Analysis and Reporting

  • Prepares and analyzes cash flow forecasts for senior leadership.
  • Preparing financial analyses and reports with senior leadership.
  • Preparing revenue projections and forecasting expenditure.
  • Assist in the reconciliation of year-end activities for tax reporting.
  • Analyzing endowment performance and forecasting future endowment spend.

System Administration, Education, Training, & Compliance

  • Maintain system for charitable gift annuities.
  • Support campus-wide accounting interfaces and integrations with other systems in coordination with Director and data stewards.
  • Assist in training of proper internal controls for accounting and cash handling.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practice including higher education specific practices.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and stress management skills.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with common Higher Education ERP systems (Workday, Oracle, Banner, PeopleSoft, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 7 (Hiring Range $54,413.00 to $72,093.00 annually)
