As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will gather and quantify use conditions impacting our next gen diabetes therapy systems.

A Day in the Life


  • Work withs to identify new, unique, and difficult (NUD) use conditions impacting next gen diabetes therapy systems and products project core team.
  • Maintain a repository of stressors and create deliverables using use conditions data including P-diagrams and Use Condition Matrices. Create detailed execution plans and schedules to quantify and assess NUD use conditions.
  • Develop test setups and fixturing for data collection.
  • Review white papers and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to assess system and product reliability.
  • Develop empirical models and perform statistical analysis to quantify stressors.
  • Develop and execute simulation models using Simulink, Stateflow, or other simulation tools.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems.
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline and 7+ years of technical engineering professional experience
  • Or, advanced degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline and 4+ years of technical engineering professional experience

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of system and software engineering architecture principles, concepts, and best practices.
  • Experience in coordinating technology designs with architectural requirements and constraints
  • Demonstrated experience generating technical documentation such as requirements, specifications, engineering reports, plans & procedures.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in product development.
  • Experience in embedded devices design, development, verification, and documentation.
  • Experience with development in a regulated industry such as medical device, defense, or automotive.
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Enterprise Architect or MagicDraw.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Simulink and Stateflow.
  • Experience with empirical modeling and systems analysis.
  • Experience in applying statistical methodology using tools such as Minitab, Crystal Ball and Discover Sim.
  • Experience in data logging and field data collection.
  • Skilled at communicating findings and learnings to project leaders and cross-functional partners, collaborate with other BU, good communication skills.
  • Influence and promote use conditions.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software stress conditions, environments (for example: pressure, humidity, temperature), and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated experience designing fixturing and wearable hardware for data collection.
  • Experience in developing and executing user studies, surveys and methodologies to help quantify use conditions.
  • Experience in determining stress distributions and using applied statistics to inform robust design and reliability performance requirements.
