We are looking for a Full-time Laboratory Technician to undertake a variety of experimental and technical procedures in a molecular biology/oncology lab. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cell cultures, and performing subsequent molecular, cellular, and biochemical analyses under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI). Other duties will include reagent preparation, general upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory equipment and supplies, supply ordering, maintaining inventories and record keeping.


Duties:




  • Cell culture. Maintaining cell cultures and reagents, cell line inventories and conducts experiments to analyze effects of treatments using various assays.

  • Molecular, Cellular and Biochemical Analysis. Performs a variety of assays on cell cultures, and human or animal tissues, including DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, growth assays, immunoblotting, and other specific routine assays, as required.

  • Animal. May perform specialized tests on experimental animals including tumor cell injection, weighing, administration of drugs, maintaining a census a census, and assisting in surgeries.

  • Procedure Assistance. Assists in more complex laboratory procedures, for example DNA transfection, genetic engineering, etc.

  • Data Maintenance. Enters data, compiles, graphs data, maintains laboratory notebook and files reports.

  • May perform data analysis.

  • Equipment Maintenance. Maintains laboratory space, laboratory supplies and equipment, assesses lab needs to order and stock supplies and equipment. Operates lab equipment.

  • As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. 

Required Education: High School Diploma/GED


 


Department Preferences: Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or closely related field or Previous experience in a basic biological science research laboratory is desirable but not required. 



Skills



  • Knowledge of routine laboratory procedures

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • An individual that is self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, proactive, has a professional demeanor, and works well in a team effort are essential .


Working Conditions: 




  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity, walking, and talking. Ability to move or lift up to 20 pounds.



  • Environmental: Laboratory Environment. May be exposed to biohazardous materials, blood borne pathogens, or
    chemicals.
