POSITION SUMMARY

This role exists to assist in design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Performs simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques. As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll assist more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods and reports. This position reports into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and is part of the New Product Development Engineering department and acts as a liaison to the U.S. Manufacturing team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise more than one functional area of manufacturing to ensure smooth process flow from new product design, raw materials supplier evaluation, production, and assembly.
  • Represents manufacturing team throughout the New Product Development process, ensuring DFM/DFA concepts are considered in product design process.
  • Supports manufacturing providing technical evaluation and ongoing assessments for vendors/suppliers to ensure quality of raw materials and monitor costs throughout product launch life cycle.
  • Responsible for manufacturing process development, as it relates to new product launches.
  • Facilitates clear communication of technical specifications to maintenance team to build fixtures/molds required for new products and product enhancements.
  • Sets priorities as required in support of meeting production schedules across all shifts and takes the lead role in transition of work requirements between shifts.
  • Drives initiatives that ensure superior quality production processes, at cost and on schedule.
  • Create routings and standard cost for new products.
  • Assists with defining the specifications and justifications of new equipment/tooling purchases particularly as they relate to new or improved products.
  • Interfaces with other various departments of the organization in a teamwork environment. Departments include, but not limited to, Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Tool Room, Maintenance, and Facilities, and external suppliers and customers.
  • Establishes processes that enhance productivity initiatives across all manufacturing lines, while adhering to safety standards.
  • Continuously improve product and process design capabilities.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives and problem-solving projects with other cross functional groups. Implement and update best practices from the learnings of each of these activities.
  • Manage direct and indirect budget for Engineering department.
  • Effectively resolve daily problems and develop action plans where appropriate.
  • Assists in training activities for new employees within the Engineering department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICIATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering discipline)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing environment, plastics experience preferred.
  • Proven track-record of leading and managing projects effectively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Familiarity with Stage Gate Methodology a plus.
  • Ability to support a flexible work schedule supporting overtime and or weekends as required.
  • DFM/DFA and “Should-Costing” experience a plus.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, Solid works, AutoCAD, and ERP Software.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of Quality systems (DFMEA/PFMEA/APQP), with working knowledge of managing supplier quality.
  • Collaborative mindset with history of influencing positive outcomes in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience delivering content to all levels of the organization.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to read, right and verbally communicate in English to all levels of the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand for extended periods of time in an office/manufacturing environment. A moderate tolerance of loud noises from manufacturing equipment. Be able to wear required PPE. This role will work within a controlled environment but must be willing to be on the floor and assist with troubleshooting.
