Summary:



Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of cardiovascular surgical procedures for the Adult or Pediatric/ Congenital population.



Responsibilities:



Demonstrates accuracy and appropriate handling, labeling, and hand off to nurse of all specimens and cultures according to MHS policy. Verifies name of specimen with Physician.


Demonstrates proper sterile technique during procedure. Handoff to other crew members.


First scrub adult & pediatric complex vascular and cardiovascular procedures including transplants.


Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.


Provides age and developmental appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents or adults.


Travels outside the OR suite to assist with placing adult & pediatric patients on ECMO or other mechanical assist device.


Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients.


Assist with appropriate instruments to physician during surgery. Assures accountability for proper counts of instruments and supplies during surgery. Maintains sterile fields to prevent site infections.

Education and Certification Requirements:



Accredited Program: Surgical Technologist (Required)BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)



Additional Job Information:



Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Being on call is required. Required Work Experience: One (1) year of experience required. Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital: No prior work experience required. One year of cardiac operating room experience and congenital heart disease experience is preferred. Other Information: Department Specific: Joe DiMaggio cardiac procedural areas: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patients with complex congenital disease throughout the procedures.
