Position Description:

The Department of Music at Spelman College invites applicants for a one-semester, part-time instructor for the spring semester of 2024 to teach Survey of African American Music (SMUS 240). The successful candidate will possess a strong background in African American music and its cultural significance, as well as demonstrated expertise in engaging students through effective teaching methodologies.


Key Responsibilities:
Conduct engaging and informative lectures on the survey of African American music, covering its historical, cultural, and musical aspects.
Organize and manage class effectively, utilizing appropriate teaching strategies to optimize student learning and participation.
Assess student performance through assignments, quizzes, exams, and other relevant assessment methods, providing timely and constructive feedback.


Qualifications:

Master's degree in Music, Musicology, African American Studies, or a related field Demonstrated expertise in African American music, including its historical, cultural, and musical dimensions.
1 year of college level teaching experience, preferably in courses related to African American music or music history.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
A passion for fostering an enriching and stimulating learning environment.
