The African-American Studies Department at Colby College invites applications for a one-year visiting Assistant Professorship to teach four courses, beginning July 1, 2024. While a Ph.D. is preferred, an advanced ABD will be considered. 


We seek a scholar whose research and teaching experience focus on African-American culture and community in the United States. A specialty in African-American religion, politics, or social movements would be a plus. Teaching experience, innovative research, and significant organizational, cultural, or civic engagement with African- American communities in the United States are necessary.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a course in African-American culture in the United States and three additional courses. Applicants are encouraged to suggest courses and topics not currently in the African-American Studies program curriculum (https://www.colby.edu/catalogue/courses/aa/). While disciplinary training and affiliations are open, preference will be given to candidates whose courses can contribute to and be cross-listed with the departments of sociology or anthropology.
