General Summary

Responsible for the development and administration of the social fraternity and sorority system. Manage the day-to-day operations of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) including advising, training, leadership development, advisor/alumni engagement, relationship management with international organizations, and chapter accountability. Contribute to strategic planning and execution, program development, budget, marketing, technical operations, and student staff development and supervision. Provide general administrative support to Campus Life.

    Working with the Director to facilitate the input process and implementation of the EMU FSL 5 Years Towards Excellence Strategic
  • Plan, focusing on the core elements of student well-being, engagement, and success.
  • Coordinate the development of a university governance model for the FSL community, situate accountability for policy violations within university conduct processes, and redesign social event policies and procedures to promote safe and healthy environments.
  • Coordinate appropriate training and leadership development for new members, chapter-level positions, advisors, etc.
  • Create strong partnerships with chapter alumni, advisors, and university stakeholders. Act as liaison to national Greek letter organization advisors and representatives assigned to EMU chapters.
  • Maintain records of chapter rosters and monitor compliance with registration/update processes at both institutional and national organization levels.
  • Advise and support governing councils (NPHC, MGC, IFC, & CPC).
  • Guide chapters/councils/members on recruitment activities and new member training.
  • Create and maintain a communication plan to inform members, leaders, advisors, and other key stakeholders of important and helpful information about resources, policies, programs, etc. Maintain the Fraternity & Sorority Life website and online presence.
  • Actively work to confront issues that affect the campus community, such as substance abuse, hazing, bias, and sexual and relationship violence. Serve on University committees charged with addressing these concerns.
  • Maintain a visible presence within the fraternity and sorority community by attending periodic meetings and events. Promote the positive aspects that come with student involvement in FSL.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, provide direction for, and evaluate student staff, student volunteers, and program participants.
  • Incorporate concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion in programs and services, marketing materials, and staffing.
  • Represent the department on campus and community committees, regional/national organizations, and campus recruitment events.
  • Engage in appropriate research and assessment. Develop databases and other records necessary to maintain longitudinal data on the efficacy of programs.
  • Negotiate contracts, ensure university compliance with all legal agreements, and ensure appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Develop and manage budgets for programs and services. Administer programs within assigned fiscal resources.
  • Operate within and enforce department and university policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of college student development theory and practice as acquired through the completion of a Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, or Higher Education Administration is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience coordinating programs and services for social fraternities and sororities, advising governing councils, and advising Greek judicial boards and/or Greek conduct processes in an institution of higher education or at a national social Greek letter organization is required.

Proven ability to apply comprehensive, culturally inclusive knowledge of student developmental theory to educational programming and services is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, risk management, and other issues/concerns specific to social Greek organizations is required.

Proven experience developing, implementing, and assessing new and existing programs and services for college students is required.

Demonstrated ability to program for and manage/supervise large, diverse groups of college students, student volunteers, and student employees is required.

Experience in basic fiscal management, such as developing and managing program budgets, is required.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Excellent management, leadership, detail-oriented organizational skills, and time management skills are required.

Demonstrated ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Mac and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Suite, the internet and web-based forms is necessary.
