KSTU, the E.W. Scripps Company FOX affiliate in Salt Lake City, Utah is on the lookout for a Traffic Reporter who embodies confidence, sharpness, and positivity to join the powerhouse number one morning show in the market, Good Day Utah. This is a rare opening to join a prominent and seasoned morning anchor team. A team that has been on the air for 20+ years together.

As our Traffic Reporter, you’ll start the day guiding our viewers through the morning commute and then report as the new face of our Driven to Change franchise. One centered on solutions journalism aimed at helping report on issues impacting drivers and how we can overcome them to make our communities safer.   We are looking for a journalist who has the experience to bring impact, is a creative storyteller and wants to connect with our viewers. As a member of our morning on-air team, there will also be reps to fill-in on other show roles – so ability to command the anchor desk is also important.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Use traffic mapping to create customized maps, commute times and navigate UDOT cameras on set to deliver real-time traffic information to our viewers.


  • Assist producing team in preparing newscast segments, which may extend beyond regular traffic hits – to stories and segments.


  • Ability to compose and share traffic information on professional and station brand social media accounts.  Bring an active daily presence.


  • Go live in the field when merited to deliver reports on real-time road conditions, or other issues that may impact the commute.


  • Develop, create and research topics and news tips to develop story ideas for our Driven to Change franchise.


  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.


  • Organize material, and write stories according to prescribed editorial story style, and formats for each of our platforms- including digital.


  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.


  • Appear in fill in on-air roles for Good Day Utah and other Fox13 broadcasts when needed.


  • Make community appearances and participate in station-led initiatives.


  • Be a great newsroom team member and citizen- and get that support back in return from our team.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED:


  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related degree or equivalent years of experience.


  • Generally, 5+ years of experience in related field preferred.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.


  • Exceptional on-air chroma key presentation skills, and an authentic, positive personality to help our morning audience start their day strong.


  • Collaboration mentality and approach to daily work.


  • Experience reporting and producing news stories of impact.


  • Ability to muti-task stories and produce versions for each platform we serve.


  • Advanced ability when it comes to critical thinking.


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.


  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
