The Animal Technician II provides routine husbandry care of laboratory animals and their housing facilities following standardized laboratory procedures which adhere to State and Federal regulations. Works with Lead Animal Technician as needed. May assist with research staff as needed.
Hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm.
Rotation of Weekends and holidays would be required.

Responsibilities
Provides food, water, and basic husbandry care for animals on a scheduled or as needed basis following Standard Operating Procedures
Observes animals on a daily basis to assess health, environmental conditions, and social environment and report all findings
Conduct and Report weekly Census
Receives and houses animal shipments in appropriate rooms
Maintains animal rooms, procedure rooms on a daily basis including sweeping and mopping floors; sanitizes equipment according to established procedures
Records all information on room log and report any deviations to Lead Tech immediately
Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods
If needed, assist with Lead Animal Technician and be able to back-up Lead Animal Technician during absences
May provide technical assistance with animals (breeding)
Interact with other groups (Researchers), as needed
Some cage wash duties may be assigned
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
1-3 years of experience in an animal facility
ALAT certification ( Note: This is a requirement, so if you aren't currently certified, you must sit for the exam after 18 months from date of hire.)
Must be able to work well with-in a team and work with minimal supervision
Ability to navigate at a basic level with computers
Applicants must work with soiled animal bedding.
