About Binghamton University:

Binghamton University is a world-class institution that unites more than 130 broadly interdisciplinary educational programs with some of the most vibrant research in the nation. Our unique character - shaped by outstanding academics, facilities and community life - promotes extraordinary student success.

Binghamton merges rigorous academics, distinguished faculty and state-of-the-art facilities to engage and challenge its 18,000 students. The high-achieving Binghamton student body also represents a great diversity of life experiences, from first-generation college-goers to international students. Beyond their talent, these classmates share a desire to shape the future through technology, insight, intellectual exploration and community service.

Job Description:

Binghamton University's Cinema Department develops artists and creative thinkers who are willing to explore experimental modalities of practice. A strong history of underground and independent production has made our trailblazing department an antidote to the Hollywood industry model.

The Department of Cinema seeks an artist to teach two courses in production along with one lecture course about Avant-Garde and Experimental Cinema. The two production courses will include required courses, which focus on experimental and personal filmmaking, as well as designed courses that are related to the applicant's personal practice. Of interest are courses in experimental narrative and script writing, non-fiction, animation, and analog filmmaking. For the Avant-Garde and Experimental Cinema course, the successful applicant will present a knowledge of this genre within a lecture and discussion format with up to 50 students delivered from an artist's perspective. This position carries a 3/3 teaching load and a contract is up to 3 years.

We are committed to offering an enriching educational environment that is inclusive of all of its constituents and that fosters a diverse, multi-vocal, connected community. We recognize that the field of cinema does not reflect the diversity of the population that it serves. We invite applications from colleagues who share in our commitment to a more inclusive discipline, through Cinematic practice, research, and teaching.

Requirements:

Applicants must have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree in film and video production or a related field by time of appointment, as well as a strong dedication to teaching. Interdisciplinary, global and cross-cultural perspectives are highly encouraged.
