The SC Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Business Consultant/Program Manager is responsible for guiding and coordinating services provided through The BRIDGE program (or others) - an established SC SBDC program offering a specialized array of consulting, training and support services targeted to the African American small business community. This will include coordinating both internal staff/services and collaboration with external partners that support the program. Candidate will conduct community outreach to establish and enhance collaborations that support achievement of SC SBDC goals.
The individual is also responsible for providing personal consulting and training services in the Midlands for business owners and entrepreneurs in order to increase job creation, access to capital, business growth, and business startups. The individual must have demonstrated relationship building skills, success in directing/coordinating collaborative projects, and consulting experience. Strong preference will be given for experience working in or with small businesses. Some travel for outreach activities and to support other SBDC centers around the state may also be required.
Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of relevant experience.
Ability to work evening and weekend hours on occasion to conduct and/or attend seminars. Some travel is required.
Strong preference for experience working in or with small businesses and in doing minority business certifications. Experience in or solid working knowledge of business financing.
Self-starter, goal-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Client Consulting and Training: Provides direct hands-on management consulting assistance to targeted business owners and entrepreneurs (business plan/strategic plan creation, fiscal management, compiling loan packages, marketing, operations management, obtaining certifications, etc.). This includes conducting private, individual consulting sessions as well as group training seminars. Also requires maintaining client assistance documentation and reporting.

Management of The BRIDGE (or other) program: This established program of the SC SBDC provides a portfolio of customized services for the African American small business community. Responsibilities will include reviewing, enhancing and coordinating delivery of program services (includes client intake process, private consulting delivered by a team of SC SBDC consultants, personal consulting, training program series, HBCU student support center oversight and program promotion). The program management responsibility could include management of new African American program(s) in the future as market needs evolve.

Community Outreach and Collaboration: Individual attends and participates in key meetings/events/conferences and makes presentations about the SC SBDC in order to raise awareness of our services. Responsibilities also include identifying potential key partners (faith-based, economic development, private sector and government organizations) and developing collaborative relationships to leverage resources and maximize economic impact.
