The Sr. Director, Portfolio Strategy, Planning and Process Innovation, Business Intelligence & Operations (BI&O) role is an important member of the BI&O leadership team and is responsible for ensuring that the team is best positioned to deliver on its strategy and business priorities. Reporting directly to the SVP of BI&O, this role is accountable for the BI&O wide strategy, optimizing BI&O internal operations and communications, driving effective decision making, and leading and/or supporting the coordination and execution of strategic initiatives across the teams.

This role will be a key contributor to the BI&O leadership team, driving strategic projects, providing oversight and guidance, and mitigating risk in partnership with BI&O LT members and their teams. The role will drive continued operational excellence and process improvement through resource optimization and management, identifying opportunities for vendor optimization and/or transition to our global service center.

This role requires an individual who can clarify roles and responsibilities and drive accountability to achieve team success. This is a high impact role that requires one to lead through influence, successfully navigate a cross-functional and matrixed environment, and manage competing priorities from multiple stakeholders across both BI&O and Biogen North America (BNA).

What You'll Do

* Strategy and roadmap for the evolution of all functions within BIO to modernize and innovate over the coming years for competitive advantage. Identify capabilities and support evaluation of vendor platforms and solutions aligned with BIO LT functions and liaise with Innovation team to pull through or provide innovation projects.

* Strategy, Priorities, Scorecard and KPIs - Lead and maintain the creation of a cohesive BI&O wide strategy and 3-year roadmap of key capabilities and priorities. Work with the LT to develop a Dept. Scorecard, identifying the appropriate KPIs for measurement that outline the impact.

* Impact and Resource Management including Internal-External Op Model - Be responsible for the efficient utilization of resources across the teams and have a broad view of the vendor landscape and fit for purpose. Identify any optimizations in internal-external ratio of resources to drive sustainable impact, owning critical skills while outsourced model for routine tasks. Work with LT, finance and procurement to identify optimal vendor strategy for effectivities.

* Annual Planning and Budget Tracking - Lead annual planning cycle efforts across BI&O including annual strategic and AOP planning; work closely with Finance to manage and achieve budget

* Process improvement and Innovation - Own the continuous process improvement capability working across the teams to identify and implement solutions to improve ways of working, find efficiencies or remove non-value-added work and processes to enable the functions to support the business and drive productivity.

* BI&O wide Cross-functional Program Leadership and PMO Office - Drive specific strategic projects on an ad-hoc basis, owning dashboards, timelines, and project management

* BI&O wide launch or integration related activities - Drive a coordinated and integrated plan for any cross-functional initiatives or integration activities across BIO, including development of a playbook and execute for success. Interface with BU launch or strategy and operations teams as needed.

* External Engagement and Thought Leadership - Liaise with external thought leaders and experts to bring in ongoing programming across the entire team and LT to shift to a "think broad" culture pillar enabling greater Innovation across key processes across the team.

* Team Engagement and Development - Plan and execute (via other teams) the right forums and agenda topics to engage various levels of the team and ensure large scale development topics are addressed in a cohesive engagement and development plan. Work with HR on career paths and innovative development programs for the 3 tracks within the team (Ops, Data & Analytics, Patient Services)

* Day to Day Strategy, Information Flow and Communications

o Be a trusted strategic partner to the SVP of BI&O, including proactively highlighting business critical risks/opportunities, and planning/overseeing critical organizational, financial, and operational activities.

o Oversee and manage the flow of information/key decisions within BI&O and across functions

o Responsible for strategic meeting management and communications including creating presentations and memos for BNA Leadership Team, CEO & Executive Team, and Board of Directors.

Qualifications

Required Skills:


  • 15+ years' experience in strategy and operations consulting and/or leading large and complex programs and initiatives in Healthcare, Life sciences, Pharma or Biotech

  • Experience in brand and commercial strategy, particularly launches in Neuroscience or Rare disease and/or experience in commercial operations and insights & analytics functional domain

  • Excellent written and oral storytelling and communication skills, particularly distilling complex or broad topics into executive level strategic comms including facilitating and leading executive discussions

  • Able to lead, take charge, facilitate, influence and navigate high business impact discussions with multiple functions groups and leaders to land at solutions and sound path forward

  • Data and metrics driven with ability to drive creativity and rigor in KPIs including strong data analysis and budget management acumen

  • Ability to lead and influence in the matrix and cultivate strong internal/external network

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; highly collaborative

  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem solving skills

  • Ability to lead in fast paced environment and in ambiguous situations

  • Demonstrated track record of excellence and rapid growth, with an ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Strong operational skills; project management capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
