Description Position Title: Learning Resources Graduate Assistant - Advising and Academic Resource Center (AARC)
Supervisor's Title & Department: Director of Learning Resources, Advising and Academic Resource Center (AARC)
Session: Academic, (August 12, 2024-May 16, 2025) This is a one-year placement with an opportunity for re-application and hire.
Hourly Rate: $17.00
Average hours per week: Up to 20 hours per week
Job Purpose: To provide direct service support to Academic Coaching, Peer Academic Coaching, and PASS in the Advising and Academic Resource Center through individual work with students, small group activities/workshops, teaching, and observations. In addition, the graduate assistant will conduct research on various issues related to tutoring and supplemental instruction, academic coaching, and effective teaching strategies. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the administration of other programs as offered by the Learning Resource and Advising and Academic Resource Centers.

Teamwork: Develop collaborative skills in working with faculty, staff, and both undergraduate and graduate students in committees.



Essential Duties:



  • Design and implement training and continued professional development for 35+ PASS Leaders and Go Mentors.

  • Conduct monthly observations of PASS Leaders and Peer Academic Coaches and provide constructive feedback.

  • Develop and maintain PASS and Peer Academic Coaching resources.

  • Create and maintain a PASS and Peer Academic Coaching web presence.

  • Gather and assess evaluations of the PASS and Peer Academic Coaching programs.

  • Serve as a mentor and resource for PASS Leaders and Peer Academic Coaches.

  • Serve a mentor and resource for PA PASS Leaders as their needs may be different than those of undergraduates.

  • Work with students through the Academic Coaching Program.

  • Design lectures and workshops for General Studies classes that focus on students' development of their reading, writing, and research skills, and ultimately their critical thinking skills.

  • Grade papers and learn how to give constructive feedback.

  • Design and maintain databases of students' persistence towards graduation from the General Studies Classes.

  • Design and maintain databases of students who enroll in credit recovery classes (six-week classes).

  • Become a functional and contributing member of the Advising and Academic Resource Team with a primary focus on learning resources.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree.Applicants must be accepted into a graduate program at the University of Lynchburg.All candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with all members of the University community.The selected candidate must pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.
