Description Position Title: Graduate Assistant - Information, Technology, and Resources
Supervisor's Title & Department: Help Desk Manager & Chief Information Officer
Session: Academic (August 12, 2024 - May 16, 2025) This is a one-year placement with an opportunity for re-application and hire.
Hourly Rate: $17.00
Average hours per week: Up to 20 hours per week
Job Purpose: The graduate assistant assists the University of Lynchburg faculty, staff and students with technical support, troubleshoot hardware, software and network problems. Assist ITR staff with hardware/software installations for all departmentally-supported applications and equipment in classrooms, computer labs, and faculty/staff offices.

  • Essential Duties:
      Respond to inquiries in person, over the phone and via email at the ITR Help DeskAssist users with the operation of computer equipment and applicationsTroubleshoot hardware/software problems and provide solutions for faculty, staff and studentsEnter work requests in work order system for techniciansMaintain loaner equipment reservations and check-in/out of said equipmentPerforms hardware/software installations/upgradesConfigures network connectivity on university-owned and student computersAny other duties as assigned

    Equipment Used:Computer - Laptop - Printer - Scanner - Telephone - Smart phones Qualifications Specific Skills/Experience Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office applications, and MAC OS.

  • Experience in servicing/troubleshooting computer hardware, software and/or network problems.

  • Thoroughness and ability to work well with customers is a must.

  • Punctuality is expected and required.

  • Maintaining integrity and confidentiality

  • Special Oral/Written Skills:Excellent oral and written communication skills a must for effective communication.
    Working conditions:The functions of this position are usually performed equally between sitting, walking, climbing of stairs, and carrying equipment across campus. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, or carrying may be required. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard involve extensive wrist and hand movements.
    Education Requirements: Must be accepted into or enrolled in a University of Lynchburg Graduate Program.
