Job Description:

Michael Baker International has an exciting opportunity for an entry-level candidate to join our Hamilton, NJ or Newark, NJ offices as a Civil Engineering Associate I - Traffic/ITS to provide services for a variety of transportation projects including traffic engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to assist in the preparation of concept and final design engineering plans, calculations, analysis, modeling, reports, technical specifications, and construction estimates and schedules. The successful candidate will become part of Michael Baker International's Traffic, ITS, and Electrical Engineering department. Michael Baker International offers a hybrid/flexible working arrangement with offices in New York City, Newark, NJ, & Hamilton, NJ.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assist with field inventory for traffic analysis and design, traffic data collection programs, traffic analysis and studies, technical reports, traffic modeling and simulation, traffic demand forecast and models, transportation management plan and traffic engineering design including traffic signal layout and timing, intersection design, pavement markings and striping, signing and traffic control plans and the preparation of quantity calculations and construction cost estimates.
  • Work closely with senior traffic engineers to complete design and/or analysis of roadways, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities and other transportation infrastructure
  • Work closely with senior ITS and electrical engineers to design the integration of advanced electronics and communications technologies into transportation infrastructure
  • Prepare quantity calculations and construction cost estimates
  • Use design software to apply engineering fundamentals
  • Research/investigate solutions and report findings
  • Learn and understand the activities involved in preparing transportation project contract documents
  • Help Michael Baker International provide innovative solutions to transportation challenges, big and small, and Make a Difference for the clients and communities we serve!

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Systems Engineering from an ABET accredited school
  • 0 - 5 year of traffic and ITS analysis and/or design experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, MicroStation
  • Traffic engineering software such as HCS and Synchro SimTraffic is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Federal and State design and traffic analysis and design guidelines, manuals, and standards is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary team and meet competing deadlines

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $98,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
