Phlebotomy Educator, First Shift, Outreach Operations Department

UC Health is hiring a full-time Phlebotomy Educator for the outreach operations department for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Phlebotomy Educator will be responsible for identifying the education needs for new and existing associates. They will develop and implement a training program that focuses on streamlining the training process, while also improving the associates technical and customer service skills. They will ensure that all associates throughout the entire outreach department have the same training regardless of the site they are covering, and they will focus on phlebotomy, processing, and customer service.

  • Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED

  • Preferred: Associate's degree in healthcare

  • Minimum Required: 1-2 years equivalent experience

  • Preferred: 3-5 years equivalent experience

  • Required: Phlebotomy Certification, knowledge of phlebotomy, specimen processing, computers, and customer service

  • Be actively involved in the interviewing, selection and hiring process for new associates.

  • Go over Safety information with new associates first week of scheduled training, along with a tour of the facility. Review job description and communicate duties, expectations, and responsibilities of the position. Work with the new associate to develop goals and expectations for the first few weeks.

  • Plan training in conjunction with Supervisors, and Manager. Monitor progress of new associates as well as actively participate in training of new associates. Travel to the various draw-sites will be necessary. Work hours will vary from time to time depending on the needs of the department.

  • Provide Mentorship to new associates as well as current associates.

  • Participate in development and evaluation of educational check off lists for new associates, and current associates with Supervisors and Manager.

  • Participates in the development of new education programs for current associates. Identify Educational needs of new, and current associates.

  • Monitor yearly competencies for LST and collaborate with Supervisors and Manager to help associates complete yearly required competencies. Monitors continuing education of current associates.

  • Help develop LST training program for hiring associates and continual monitoring.

  • Assist with completion of associate evaluations in conjunction with Supervisors, and Manager.

  • Train/Mentor Preceptors in proper training of new associates and check off lists.

  • Work the Bench as needed. Performs Phlebotomy; performs pre-analytical processing of specimens; accessions, labels, and prepares specimens for transport; performs clerical support duties.

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisors, Manager or Director pertaining to the educational needs of the Laboratory.
