Summary

The Business Analyst leverages business data related to performance measurement to conduct technical operations in the area of data management, analysis or dissemination and may act as a project lead. The analyst is responsible for ensuring high levels of data quality and providing analytical support to Division Leadership, including consistent data definitions, integrity of underlying data models and monitoring / auditing overall data quality. Makes recommendations to increase efficiency and streamline processes. Provides analytical services and expertise in the development of effective strategies, efficient financial management and collaborative resource allocation. Provides quality information and services that enable our leaders to make informed decisions and proactively manage their business.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Conducts data analysis in support of Division objectives and financial analysis.

  • Supports other analysts in obtaining and manipulating economic, financial, or regulatory data. Performs data analysis in support of ad-hoc and standing user requests.

  • Answers inquiries from senior staff, other agencies, and the general public about reporting issues, data content, and related topics.

  • Supports the strategic planning process for the System's Supervision Function. Analyzes and reports System performance metrics through the Performance Measurement Program and Office (PMPO). Provides analysis and reporting, as well as supports strategic initiatives and System projects.

  • Recommends procedures to promote the collection, acquisition, and dissemination of data.

  • Manages the timeliness and integrity of data; creates documentation; facilitates the use of data to support the requirements of Division Leadership and other analysts.

  • Follows appropriate methodologies, policies and procedures for collecting, storing, analyzing, or presenting data products.

  • Conducts training activities and creates documentation to support those activities.

  • Develops own professional skills. Identifies appropriate directions for own professional development, and initiates activities to bring about that development.

FR-25: Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or related fields and a minimum of 4 years of related experience or a master's degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience.

FR-26: Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or related fields and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a master's degree in a related field and 3 years of related experience.

About the Team

The Financial Planning and Procurement (FP&P) section collaboratively oversees Supervision's financial planning processes, including Reserve Bank budgets, National Data and Technology budgets, and Board S&R budget and procurement. The team supports Supervision strategy and stakeholders through applying financial data and subject matter expertise to craft analysis and recommendations that inform sound decision-making.

About the Role

In this role, the incumbent should expect to:


  • Evaluate existing reporting and identify potential process improvements
  • Perform data collection and build out data visualizations of various reporting
  • Aggregate, analyze, and present financial or resource data, including technology related financial data
  • Support resource management reporting, including key operational metrics and position management
  • Raises issues and proactively contributes to new policies, practices, and/or tools.
  • Exhibits a strong knowledge of division policies, procedures and processes, and contributes to process improvement efforts.
  • Identifies opportunities to develop skills and expertise and to gain exposure internal and external to the division

Required Skills/Experience


  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis, economic principles, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization and reporting- Power BI or Tableau preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to various audiences
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Flexibility to manage competing priorities efficiently and to complete tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of resource management strategies or reporting a plus

Note: This position is located in Washington DC and will require on-site presence 4 times per month and as business needs require.
