The Bioinformatics Core at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Bioinformatics Programmer/Analyst with a strong background in next-generation sequencing data analysis. Ideally, the candidate will provide support in designing, developing, and deploying robust bioinformatics workflows to support the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data generated from bench and clinical research problems. Activities occur with a moderate degree of supervision with some latitude for independent judgment, and the candidate should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical engineering, or computer science is desirable. Previous knowledge in the use of high-performance computing cluster (Linux environment), and programming in R is required. Flexible daylight hours may be necessary. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. The Bioinformatics Analyst will develop and implement routine omics data analysis pipelines across a wide range of disease domains.
• Evaluates business requirements and performs basic data integration and analysis.
• Reviews business requirements given on assignment or may gather requirements and seek clarification from end users for straightforward analytical tasks.
• Documents methods used and analyses performed as necessary.
• Escalates complex issues to senior data analysts for further action.
• Develops routine analytical and reporting tools.
• Follows standard procedures for analytical and reporting tool development.
• Integrates data from one or multiple sources into analytical tools.
• Provides technical support on customized analytics and reporting tools.
