The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $83,605 to $104,756.
Job Summary
The Telecommunications department with Avangrid's Operational Smart Grids (OSG) organization is responsible for strategy, enterprise planning, operation, and compliance of the telecommunications network for Avangrid Networks, which serves CMP and MNG in Maine, along with RGE and NYSEG in New York and UIL in Connecticut and Massachusetts. One of the services supported is Smart Metering, including Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) which is considered a foundational technology for grid modernization. RGE and NYSEG, a both subsidiaries of Avangrid, Inc., serves over 1.6362 Million retail electric customers in New York State. Reporting to the Supervisor of Telecom, the selected person will join a team of telecom experts and will work closely with the Smart Metering department and other groups (e.g., Network Management Center team, Corporate IT, Control & Automation Systems, Electric Operations, Customer Service) to develop and implement solutions for the telecoms network to support Smart Metering, including AMI.
Major Responsibilities
Provide blue sky and storm network field telecommunications support as needed for AMI and other complex metering networks, working with telcos and local network support, to ensure maximum availability of the systems and deliver on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)/performance metrics
Lead enhancement and/or migration projects related to the telecoms network to serve AMI and other complex metering networks
Use expert level knowledge of telecom infrastructure and process flow to collaborate with the Smart Metering department to propose then execute on changes and improvements to the AMI Wide Area Network (WAN) and Neighborhood Area Network (NAN) and other complex metering networks
Build, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot network devices for the AMI WAN and NAN and other complex metering
Design and deliver reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and KPIs/performance metrics
Lead and facilitate training plans and knowledge transfer for new or junior level team members to foster continuity on the team
Provide accurate and comprehensive analysis to management as needed to aid in setting team direction and strategy
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred. Degrees in Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science with at least 2 years of experience preferred
Advanced knowledge of Information/Operations Technology design and implementation preferred
Demonstrated ability to drive solutions to complex problems or projects. preferred
Solid technical background with experience with Telecom WAN technologies including the following:
Networking and topology / understanding of high-level network and security concepts, radio networks, firmware updates, and FCC regulations
Network functionality and tools including SSH, traceroute, ping, understanding of DHCP, VPN technologies, firewall concepts and architecture
Experience working with Telco circuit providers, devices, and services required
Analytical, troubleshooting, and process improvement experience preferred
Knowledge of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) preferred
Bucket truck experience below the power space preferred
The ability to demonstrate good communication skills both written and orally. This communication would be with team members, others' departments, regulating authorities and leadership local and abroad. required
Ability to maintain multiple tasks and manage expectations required
Demonstrated track record of building cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders, and overseeing the resolution of complex technical issues preferred
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other business analytical tools required
Knowledge of electric and/or gas utility operations preferred
Previous work experience in IT, operational telecom, network or systems engineering, or metering operations preferred
