Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Continuous Improvement Consultant in Baltimore, Maryland. The Continuous Improvement Consultant is responsible for identifying, managing, and leading corporate Continuous Improvement (CI) project teams to improve complex critical business processes that drive financial results. The individual in this position will effectively use proven Lean and Six Sigma methodologies for fact-based decision making and root cause problem solving to support the execution of the overall business strategy. Seeking candidates with prior exposure to Six Sigma, Lean and Continuous Improvement processes. Proven Project Management experience. College degree preferred.

Requirements for the Continuous Improvement Consultant position include:

  • Successful completion training and thorough understanding in CPS and the DMAIC methods of Six Sigma problem solving. Additional training includes DMEDI & CPS methodology.
  • Must be results oriented and an effective business systems thinker.
  • Must be able to see the big picture and understand how the business units interact with each other.
  • Must possess the ability to manage risk and unknowns during each project life cycle.
  • Must be able to provide solutions that will improve the company’s ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce costs, and increase profits.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects to ensure effective process research, development and implementation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required. Must be able to conduct training to small and large groups.
  • Must have analytical skills with ability to evaluate facts and maintain good judgment when making decisions.
  • Excellent PC skills with knowledge of Power Point and Excel required; basic AS/400 SEQUEL & SQL query skills preferred.
  • Extensive travel and overnight lodging is required to complete the full training program.
  • Must be able to handle large volumes in a fast-paced environment.

Physical requirements must be met for the Continuous Improvement Consultant job, including regularly being required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
